It is delusional to believe that any gun reform law, which will leave peaceful, law abiding citizens defenseless in face of brutal attacks by criminals or extremists will improve public safety. Since the politicians are so confident, that disarming law abiding citizens will eliminate gun violence, police should also give up their guns. Since law abiding citizens will no longer need guns to protect themselves and their families, police will not need them either. Right? Wrong! Are people really that stupid and expect politicians to be able to stop the violence and guarantee public safety by passing more laws? Can we please get this safety guarantee in writing? While we are at it, let’s legislate morality, ethics, and taste. After every school shooting, there is a debate about tougher gun laws. How many gun laws have been passed since the Columbine school shooting? Are we safer now than we have been then? Not according to the news. Are there not enough gun laws already? So, what is the problem? Why doesn’t it work?
Now, nobody is arguing about universal, thorough, and efficient background, as well as mental health checks, raising the minimum age, etc. Nobody in the right mind wants crazies roaming our streets, wielding automatic weapons. But making guns illegal will not deter people who are determined and who don’t care about the law in the first place. Common sense tells us that passing laws to make guns illegal will only disarm people, who obey the law, making it easier and safer for criminals to commit crimes. That is why our schools have become targets in the first place. So, for those who think that making guns or for that matter, vehicular homicide, toxic chemicals, bomb making, terrorists killing innocent women and children, nuclear weapons, etc., illegal and take away the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families will make us safer, you are fooling yourselves and make all Americans look like complete fools. The world must be saying: “Americans are stupid!”, because we go out of our way to prove it and I am reminded of that every time I go into a liquor store and am being asked for a driver’s license to make sure I am over 21, while I am 65 years old man! Hello?! Where did the common sense go? No wonder artificial intelligence will replace human’s “lack of intelligence”, soon. By not questioning that, which does not make sense, “human robots” lack not only intelligence; they lack any common sense! Period!
