There is an article in the Washington crab wrapper about the "hundreds" of people, most of who are not from DC, who are applying for CCW licenses.

Will they accept my NRA Instructor ratings off of my Instructor ID or do you have to dig out a certificate?

It sure would be easier if they just mandate training for everyone. This constant changing of the rules is is very confusing

So after an hour of getting bounced back and forth between 2 offices, I walked out with my permit and 3 Firearm registration cards. Another heads up, the permit is valid for 2 years from when your training was completed. Don't know where that came from, but that what they said and gave me. Since I am a DC instructor, they said all I had to do was show a recent shooting qualification to satisfy the training. So I showed them my cert. I did for renewing my MD creds in July. So now my permit expires in July of '19. What a joke.

WTF ? So it's best to apply, get approved then hope you find training.

Someone should let Gura know what these clowns are up to. Nothing in the reg says your DD214 must have been dated within 2 years of your application.

I do admit they do say training has to be within 2 years but WTF?

I got out of the Army in 1971. I got an HD. How is that not acceptable in light of what the reg says about previous military service? Nothing says with 2 years of your application

Well, the regs certainly don't state that, and it doesn't surprise me, but I bet some early applicants were allowed to use them.

I'm not spending any more money to get a permit if mine is denied. I'll wait on National Reciprocity if that happens.

As usual, the lack of clarity or specificity is typical for this bunch.

    They win.

Others might have deeper pockets than me. I’ve jumped through enough hoops for these clowns including taking the law class twice.

I complied with all of their requirements only to have them move the goal post yet again. The regs state prior military service, not prior military service withing the past two years.

I should be hearing from them in the next ten days

    Guess we’ll see

Good morning all. FWIW I submitted completed application (training documents pending) on 19 October. I visited the office on 18 January and was told it would be a few more weeks. I met the LT and handed over DC training Documents, (they declined DD214 and training docs for VA permit, said they weren't needed). He explained the application looked good to go and they would mail the permit when issued. I called today, permit was approved and mailed.

Of all the resources available, this forum has been the most reliable, comprehensive up-to-date and helpful. Thanks to all!

Did you register a gun and get that permit already? I thought the only way to register a gun was in person, then that card is issued, not mailed.

No. sorry should have been clearer. As a DC resident, I've had guns registered/re-registered for several years. This approval was for DC concealed carry license only. Hope this helps others see how far along in the approval process they are (mine was a simple application with no questionable issues, dc resident with training from the local MPD roster).

This is a warning to those whom had previously applied for a DC permit back in 2016 and were denied for not having G&S. DCPD said you could just request that your previous application be reused by signing a form. On 10/6/17 I had gone into the DC permit office and signed the letter to have my application reused. It seemed to easy, and it was. Today I called to check status since we have passed 90 days and first was told they have not looked at it yet, and then got a second officer who said no they had looked over my info but I was missing proof of residence. As he went on to explain, they change the processing procedure and the old appplications did not ask for proof of residence previously. SO if you fall into this catagory of applicant, I would call them and check on your status. They will let you wait for 90 days and then let you know your missing documents and hold things up longer.

Update- I spoke with Lt. Hall today and explained what Ofc. Mills had done with the validity on my permit, and he fixed the problem. Ofc. Mills had made a mistake because LEO permits are valid from the persons qualification date, but civilian permits are supposed to be good for 2 years. So Lt. Hall fixed it and mailed me a new one.

I'm not sure how many permits they have issued. Each occurrence I read sounds like they operate as everyone is their first recipient.

The statute is somewhat vague on the training for the initial application. I didn't read it as necessarily needing to be under 2 years old if applying for the exemption.

I called Ofc. King's number last Thursday and was transferred over to where Lt. Hall was. I told Lt. Hall that I have my license and was trying to convince a few other persons to apply. I just called to get a clarification on something. I informed him of what Ofc. King told me, that they wouldn't accept any training that's more than 2 years old and that included my DD214. Lt. Hall then said that applicants can submit the training anyway and let them decide on whether or not to accept it.

If they have accepted one, wouldn't they not have to accept any DD214, regardless of the date?

Typical of them to not commit to one easily defined policy, allowing them more discretion to deny applications.

That's kinda funny since IIRC the web page says prior military service meets the training exemption.

    From the instructions:
    .

The 2nd is from the referenced DC Regs 2336.3. I see no other exemption requirement if you submit a DD214.

Don't feel too bad. I had NRA Basic, NRA PPIH, and NRA RSO as well as a couple of hunting licences with my certs for Hunter Ed. and and I took the full
    $250 DC course.

I applied before October though and those 2336.3. regs were not out yet, or where certainly nowhere I could find them

I called yesterday to check the status of my permit, and was told its in the "final stage" and I should get a decision next week. Much more polite on the other end of the line this call, I hope that's a good sign. My application date was Oct. 11.
