I am looking for some input on 3x magnifiers with flip to side mounts. I recently bought a Primary Arms SLX-1x micro prisim sight and, before I spring for a magnifier, I figure I better ask if it does what I want it to do.

The microprism sight has an ACSS reticle and, at 100 yards, the chevron is hard to see on a black target. I'm hoping that the 3X magnifier will increase it's size 3 times. Will it do what I want?

I never used a magnifier so I don't even know if I am asking the correct question.

My only experience with a magnifier is on a EOtech but your chevron will be "bigger" and proportionally so will the target. The big issue is getting the proper eye relief with the magnifier.

I use one, it magnifies everything.

Thanks, I considered the eye relief, it is 2.5 inches but several videos I have watched said it is not critical. Since I am putting this on a carbine with a five position stock, I can get my nose on the charging handle if need be.

Depends on the magnifier, sometimes you end up with a tunnel view if you are not consistent with eye placement.

I use a Vortex VMX-3T paired with an EOTech HWS 512; the 3T's rock solid, and fairly easy to adjust for eye relief, etc.. I've paired it with a Sig Romeo5 on a couple occasions, too, but I could swear the holographic is clearer and less distorted.

Hey John, I bought a Sightmark 5x Magnifier from Optics Planet for roughly $100. It comes in 3x, 5x, and 7x and includes a slide to side QD mount.
If you buy it and decide you don't like it, not a huge loss. Here's the link if you want to check it out:

I didn’t like the magnifier i used with my Eotech , which is why I got the 3x prism sight with the ACSS from Primary Arms for the latest AR build

I bought a cheap one to use on my AR9 with a Sig Romeo 5. At 5X the red dot of the Sig is pretty distorted. At lesser magnification it is a little better. I can't remember the brand, but it was around $100 or so. More Chinese crap.

I have 3x magnifiers on 4 guns (AR pistol, AR rifle, Scorpion pistol SBR and Scorpion carbine) - 2 Holosun 3X magnifiers and 2 of the PA 3X Micromagnifiers. They do magnify the reticle and if you turn on the illumination, the chevron should be easy to see at 100 yds. I have PA 1x microprisms on all the guns. If you live in the Baltimore area, I'd be more than happy to meet you at Freestate or Guntry and let you try out the weapon of choice with the magnifier.

Thanks for the response. I was up at my brothers over Christmas and was able to try out the exact PA 3x that I am looking at. Based on that little excursion, now I am trying to decide if I want to sell my 1X slx and buy a 3x version rather than add the extra weight of a magnifier. It's always something.

the 3x is a nice option as well as the 2X GLX prism
