Be advised, that starting on the 17th, both the rifle and shotgun ranges will be closed until the project is complete including weekend s.
Per the Elk Neck State Forest web site:
http://dnr.maryland.gov/forests/Pages/publiclands/central_elkneckforest.aspx
July 1, 2019 - North East, MD. Beginning July 17, 2019, the Rifle and Shotgun Ranges at Elk Neck State Forest will be closed for important and much needed renovations to better serve the public. Visitors are not permitted on the rifle and shotgun ranges during this closure. The closure is anticipated to last for up to four months. During the closure, the Pistol and Archery ranges will remain open for public usage. However, long rifles, shotguns, and any other long gun are prohibited at those two ranges.
During the closure, contractors will be working to replace all concrete pads, pavilion supports, shooting tables and installing no blue sky protection. This project is being undertaken by the Department of Natural Resources Engineering and Construction Division with assistance from the Maryland Department of General Services. As a result of this project and the tornado damage sustained at Elk Neck State Park, the 2019 Northern Chesapeake Sportsman for Kids day scheduled for September has been canceled.
The signs were in place yesterday afternoon. The start date for the contractor was not decided upon until JUNE 28, 2019. Once completed, the range will still be under roof.
Are AR based pistols actually considered pistols for range purposes?
As long as they are fired like a pistol. Single handed or hand over hand. No shouldering.
It's a good thing that the state is willing to spend some of our money to improve it
any update?
