This is an interesting case where the FBI was investigating a person suspected of selling Bitcoin for cash. He apparently had created and posted a few YouTube videos related to drone use, not specifically Bitcoin activities. The investigators asked Google to supply a list of ALL users who watched the videos and for the IP address of anyone watching without a google login. The order was granted and within the order Google was required to keep the order secret. I assume, until the investigation was complete”

In conversations with the user in early January, undercover agents sent links of YouTube tutorials for mapping via drones and augmented reality software, then asked Google for information on who had viewed the videos, which collectively have been watched over 30,000 times.

The court orders show the government telling Google to provide the names, addresses, telephone numbers and user activity for all Google account users who accessed the YouTube videos between January 1 and January 8, 2023. The government also wanted the IP addresses of non-Google account owners who viewed the videos.

So, what does this mean for you? I guess as we already know, anything you view online can be subpoenaed by the government. Even if what you are viewing has nothing to do with illegal activities, you may be considered “part of an investigation” merely by association with another content creator or contributor.

I'm not a technogeek big brain, but does a VPN truly make one Casper or it just makes it a tad more difficult to trace? .Gov has enormous resources and they know how to waste 'em.
They would need the logs from the VPN provider and if it is an offshore provider like Proton VPN, they won't get them unless they can coerce the foreign gov to get involved. Proton says 'f u big brother.'

Some VPN providers purposely don't keep logs and they advertise that fact so big brother won't even bother.

Would it be disingenuous to salute the "Patriot" Act? :secret::tongue01:
Unlike naming scientific discoveries, legislation (and disingenuous legislators) are adept at sleight of hand and purposefully misnaming their evil progeny.

Still, the piblic laps this shit up as if it was mothers milk.

Guess we are: living in interesting times AND getting what (the collective) we deserve.

Honestly though, any investigation with an unknown target does this. You start with a broad group of info and begin looking for things that match what you do know, then focus your search on the ones that have a lot of matches.

You know they'll be watching the watchers of gun and prepper channels too.
The funny or not so funny part of this is that those who do prep or practice survival, self defense, self reliance are akin to Noah in the Bible but Noah was mostly mocked. In our case, preppers, 2A folks are vilified, demonized and legislated out of existence if the Left has their way.

If the SHTF, guess where the naysayers will be coming for help and provision when they are dying off and have to turn to cannibalism and crime.
