I recently purchased 15 acres in Northern Baltimore County. I need to find a good forester to clear and sell about 10 acres of timber. It's mostly row-planted white pine that I estimate to be about 30-50 years old-they are big and there is a lot of them!

Can anyone recommend a forester that they've worked with?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I did find listings of registered foresters but was hoping to find someone who had first-hand experience working with one and could recommend them.

Are you planning to clear it for grass? If so, I would call several and see on the price you get, also ask if they mulch the stumps. Some have the trailer that grinds the stumps and have the gear to pull it all up and leave you with ground about ready to be seeded. If you want clean ground this is a lot of extra work and would reduce the price delivered to you.

Typically forestry consultants charge 10 to 15% of the sale price. If it's not saw logs and just pulp wood, and only 10 acres you may have a hard time finding one to take the work. The dnr link is a great start.

Mills arent buying a lot right now, make sure you get more than one price as people buying standing timber prices gain vary tremendously.

Try A&A Forestry out of Pikesville. 410-486-4561. Ask for Liam. He's their forester.
