-For years I had intended to find a mid-war Czech DUO pocket pistol. Found a nice early GECO marked wartime example not all that long ago so you'd think the search would be put to rest. Then I found a rough looking '43 DUO in the middle of a tiny estate auction. It was the search for a Mauser WTP that led me to this one.
-The WTP was too far gone to consider, but the grimy DUO held promise. It had a $200 opening bid amount and I was the only one to bite. In the end I was the only one not scared away (or too reckless to say no) and mine was the lone bid when the hammer dropped.
-It showed up in my mailbox today and I was relieved to find that the juice was worth the squeeze. Aside from some minor edge wear the finish was very good under the layer of dirt. In fact I'm impressed at the high level of finish afforded a mid-war example. Mechanically it's tight so all's well!

How nasty did it look before?

I'll have to see if I can find the original photo. So low level and grainy it looked like it was B&W.
The sad thing was the Mauser WTP. This was the 1st variation. It was really rough, like it lived in a barn for the last 60 years. Yet someone put in a $230 bid for it. In retrospect probably cheap in this red hot market.

-Here's what the listing looked like. This is what I had to go on.

    Mawkie,

Your two recent great Duo finds got me off my butt and motivated me to finally grab one as well. Snagged a decent enough ‘41 this week, not nearly as nice as yours but I wanted an earlier wartime example and it fits the bill. Sturdy little pistols, I can easily see how they can multiply!
