Again we bow to Rack & Roll for his ace real time reporting.

I don't have the words to sufficently describe jack NcCauley's Testimony.

Lxix, Gryphon, teratos, tsmith1499, Shift and myright--thanks for the online high-5's!

Special thanks to DC-W and others who gave expanded realtime coverage and to Overboost44 for managing testimony paper flow for me.

Great to see: dblas (MSI Pres), rwbox1969, sigXfine, DC-W, Tim Montoya, jaybeez, dogbone, mopar92, lou45, shafTed, mjd438, Andi Morony (MD State Rifle and Pistol Club), John Jocelyn (AGC), Mxrider and Ms. mxrider, jacqueline, frogman, t-ball, Apagios, DavidMS, rambling_one and Shannon Alford (NRA)

.... Basically a day with no opposition testimony, so a real plus!

You are quite welcome. It was nice to be able to help and to read through 400 pages of testimony!

Right on! Thanks for the hard work RnR. Jack had me in a state of awe.

I don't want to leave anyone out, but todays testimony was the best I have seen. Everyone did a great job. I noticed several times the amount of delegates in attendance dwindled or they showed little interest. Though I swear the delegate in front of me had MDS on his computer the whole time. The red bar at the top was too familiar. He had one of those tinted screens covering the writing, but he was reading it. I don't know his name, but maybe someone does.

Zirkin is asking why isolate one crime as opposed to how to transfer guns for other disqualifying crimes... But we need to be adamant that the transfer options in the bill are too limited. Turn them into the police or sell them. Not right. You should be able to transfer them to another person.

If this bill makes it over to the house, I'm coming down there to testify on this!

There's a case before the big court on just this type of situation http://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/henderson-v-united-states-2/
Might be a good idea to wait & see before making laws on it

My thanks to everyone who attended and acted a surrogates for those who can not for whatever reason attend. With special thanks to R&R for keeping everyone informed. And a very special thank you to Jack McCauley for his expert testimony which was very clear and understandable and given in such a way as to make an impact. Have you ever considered writing some articles that could be given wider distribution in the state to improve the layman's understanding of the subject?

Lou45 just informed me that MSP crime lab just walked out the door. perhaps that's why the shell casing law was rescheduled?

An MSP Crime Lab specialist testified on the DNA Bill that was scheduled for today early in testimony. I strongly suspect that the "shell casing" bill was purposely scheduled for next week (instead of today) to help prevent the MSP Crime Lab specialist from testifying and having to let the cat completely out of the bag or just plain lying; from all I can tell, basically MSP doesn't want to testify on this matter due to their inability to process the casings and having solved zero (0) crimes with this program that has cost taxpayers and new handgun purchasers many millions of dollars since the program's implementation.

Why not hold it early today?

Now folks have to haul back down there for another day.

See my above alleged response. ^^^

Zirkin killed panels on these bills. Everyone is being called one by one in no particular order.

From what I was able to decipher, we were called in reverse order as to the order we signed up on the computers before testimony began; it's happened before.

Lou and his velvety voice... The committee should agree with everything he says just because.

By members on this forum I've been called "Barry White", "The Amazing Voice", and now "Velvet Voice", amongst other names and references I won't go into here.:lol2:

    Lou45 has fallen asleep.

    Poke him for heavens sakes!

    I'm wasn't done yet. If I started snoring, that's the timer to let'cha' know I'm done.:D

They do have imaginary friends ya know.. ;)

Yeah I know. My imaginary friends come home and tell me they're all crazy.:lol2:

Anybody else get the sense that Zirkin decided not to do panels specifically to take away from the synergy and cohesion of our affiliated groups?

He was reasonably polite and accommodating throughout the day, but it seemed like the intended effect of bringing people up individually was to break up the power bloc that's always there (NRA, MSI, etc).

    See my third response above.

That's amazing. Applause to all that spent these 2 days in Annapolis.
    :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Looks as though a few of us will be returning Tuesday for the "shell casing" bill.

I'm very thankful to see so many conscientious, intelligent, and incredibly determined people involved in this fight. I could feel true emotions and frustration of those who filled the Senate hearing room. "I" have proudly become "They."

No one has ever won a fight they ran from. I owe a special thanks to Jeremy Tolliver for encouraging my continued involvement. He's one of many warriors who deserves special recognition. Thanks to everyone for supporting the entire movement to educate others.

    Jack McCauley

Jack, many thanks for your support and testimonies in this fight and seeing the light, as the words coming from your mouth carry much more weight than the same words from our mouths. My hat's off to ya'.

Where in the room was that Senator sitting??? If it's on the far left (as viewed from the peanut gallery) and on the end seat, it was Justin Ready District 5, my Senator. When he was House Delegate for Carroll, he and I had many a talk behind closed doors. Good guy and on our side he is.

Of course, Jack McCauley showed up and floored that place. What a speaker; had every single person's undivided attention and spoke with massive authority.
There was a discussion in the anteroom about this issue - Zirkin does not like panels and, apparently, has done this with most of the hearings to date. He usually likes to take witness testimony in the timestamp order of sign-ups. In yesterday's case, there were "so many" people that signed up for 4 of the bills, that the committee staff took the list, sorted it in Excel, eliminated to duplicates, and handed it to the Chairman - hence the "alphabetical by first name" sorting.

Several of the Senators mentioned that they had panel witnesses coming to testify, since deference is normally given to the lobbyist/sponsor panels as they tend to have professional-sounding presentations, with facts/evidence in hand and actually follow-up when asked for additional information (Frosh did permit this during the past several years, IIRC). That does not appear to be the way that JPR will operate for as long as Zirkin remains chair.

beyond that change in format which may be the new normal, Chairman Zirkin was polite and courteous.

the only complaint i have is that Senator Brochin while acting as chair was somewhat abrupt when dealing with Mr Jocelyn and Mrs Alford. He's carrying a grudge over his well deserved, accurate, and fully earned NRA and AGC ratings. that's his right to do, and we all have a right to carry a grudge against him in return, but that sort of behavior was not reciprocated against him at all yesterday that i could see. maybe i'm nit picking, but it wasnt professonal at all.

he indicated that he supported the bills, so lets judge him by his actions on that.

Lou, it was the other side of the room from Ready. I was sitting next to RacknRoll. This guy was in front of me with his back to me.

If he's operating that way out of preference and doing so for all his hearings, then that's fine. He's the chairman and if that's how he likes to do things, okay. When the first person from the "pro" panel was called (Andi from MSRPA), he said "There are no panels today and I'll tell you why: 'cause we're actually taking individuals who are gonna be talking on multiple bills so we're just gonna keep calling one by one if that's okay." That made it seem (at least to me) like this was special, just for us. And maybe you take him at his word and it's because he thought he'd get through people faster going one-by-one or maybe you're more cynical and think he wanted to avoid facing a united front of dedicated professionals. Or maybe this is just how he runs all his hearings; I don't know. I just found it interesting.

OK, so it's starting to sound like the "just for us" was mainly due to our high-number turnout, and that they accommodated a hybrid solution is a good thing. It shows me they know we're now a fixture as citizens, and it's not just the .orgs any more.

Better than "Name and position and move along", for sure.

Shannon from the NRA also said that the federal law which prohibits people possessing has no allowance for transferring the weapons at all and that was her angle. The Feds would call you a criminal if you conspired to transfer the weapons the minute you were convicted. Maryland would allow 24-48 hours and in that time you would be committing a federal crime.

I am all for clearing up laws, but why wouldn't a "good" attorney ask his client about firearm ownership and plan ahead. "In the even you are found guilty, we need to set up a person to take possession of your collection." It's not like you get arrested and convicted in a matter of hours or days.
