Legally, can someone with a W&C permit keep a pistol in a lockbox in his car 24/7?

What if the spouse drives the car too, she doesn’t have a W&C permit (or HQL), but she also doesn’t have the key to the lockbox? Would she be unlawfully “in possession” while driving? If so, how is that different from her being home without the W&C spouse while guns are in the safe there?

Why on earth would you want to do that? Seriously, just take the gun with you when you go. Too easy to steal or loose control of it under this scenario. Just my $0.02... can't comment on the legality of it, but having it in the car with when the licensee isn't there seems like asking for trouble unless your wife is driving to a range, dog training, or gunsmith.

It's not that simple. There are areas that you're not allowed to bring a gun at all with or without a permit, full stop. You need to read the laws and see if the places you will be traveling through are restricted places or not.

No - assuming the car leaves your property. There are lots of places that are illegal for you to have a gun on you.

No. The requirement for W&C holders is different than for everyone else. Non W&C folks have significant restrictions on where they can travel to with the gun in the car. W&C folks have slightly fewer restrictions.

Laziness. But really, I’m trying to figure out if there is a lawful equivalent here of “truck guns” that people have in other states. It seems unlikely.

Good point - even if the MoCo “sensitive places” law gets struck down, there’d still be normal sensitive places left, which could be a problem.

It looks like I have my answer - and that answer is no! Thanks for the input, guys.

Parking lots of Post Offices, Schools, VEIP Test Stations, Courthouses, Government offices
    What else?

Otherwise, you seem to be saying a permit holder can't carry anywhere, or not enough places to matter.

And if Schrodinger has a locked box marked "cat," who knows what's in it?

Besides, if you leave the gun in the car, you could end up like the Washington Co judge, shot down in your driveway.

Yall just like to make it easy for criminals? What happens if your car gets stolen, you think a lockbox is going to keep them out? Keep it on you or don’t take it all.

Hand a carry permit when they first came out. Was a jeweler who carried diamonds and gold so I was almost unlimited. Carried to ball games, religious services, everywhere without once being questioned. Now I would have to beg for a permit and not qualify.
Here in Worcester county you see plenty of trucks with rifles and shotguns in racks. This is a hunting county and aware of our 2A rights.

Why would you not qualify for a permit now? MD's been shall issue for over a year.

dunno if its a true stat but 50% of stolen guns are taken from cars. I cringe at ppl who do that when the building they're going into isnt firearm prohibited.

Considering the increased car thefts and window breaking all over the country and even in my own neighborhood in pompous bethesda i wouldn't even leave a shitty bersa in the car. The thought of it possibly being used on a fellow good person or me down the road is enough for me not to do it.

Whats the gun in the lockbox gonna do when you're pumping gas?
