Pushing it is probably flexing it, and causing it to bind in there tighter.

Have you tried some thin-walled brass or aluminum tubing, to see if you can slip it over one end of the hanger wire? Pushing from the other end then might work.

Bolt action or semi-auto? Can you see any daylight at all around the obstruction? On 2 occasions I've had the opportunity to pull .58 and .50 call mini-balls out of muzzleloaders...:innocent0

Those were easy. This is going to be a bit different.

Got to Home depot, get yourself the appropriate sized "hardwood" dowel. Return home, unload the gun and remove bolt if possible, Check that it's unloaded, check that is unloaded again, check that it is unloaded yet again, place safety glasses on your face, check that it is unloaded, insert dowel in to bore from the muzzle, check that is it unloaded, proceed to tap "lightly" on the other end of the dowel with a small hammer until the blockage is removed.

A squirt of gun oil will help before using the above procedure...from both ends.

Make sure it's unloaded. Penetrating fluid like Deep Creep or Kroil, something similar FROM BOTH ENDS and let it set for a while. Then do the dowel as above. After you make sure it's unloaded.

wood dowel as mentioned or brass rod... or a rod that is threaded internally like a cleaning rod, but threads would
have to be hard enough to "grab" the end of the coat hanger...

I would not use any wood dowel. Unless the hanger wire is very loose - and from the OP it does not seem like it is loose - the wire will just drive into the end of the dowel like a wedge. Expanding the dowel for a double jam situation. I would go with brass. As close to the bore diameter as possible. Probe for both ends and drive toward the closest end. A brass rod could also tell you more about the material in the bore by light tapping by hand and check the sound as sharp click (hitting metal) or duller thunk as something else. Like noted above, is any light visible around the obstruction?
