    HI Guys,

I paid a visit to my gunsmith a couple weeks ago and in conversation I brought up 922r and he didn't seem to know what that was and it certainly didn't appear to be tongue in cheek or don't ask don't tell type of thing.

He is by no means a new/young gunsmith and has been around the block and worked at many local gun shops and does a lot of contract work for other shops not in the immediate area.

This has me wondering if this is a good or bad thing and curious to get your opinions on the matter.

    Thanks

I would be concerned if you had him building a firearm from an inported parts kit. You could run into problems if the right people checked your gun.

It is best to keep everything within the law.

If you are having anything modified or built, I would locate another gunsmith.

BATF doesn't know all the in and outs of 922(r), in this current environment don't put yourself in harms way.

Thanks, no his name is not Chad and yes I do not mess around with or plan on doing anything that could put me or my family in legal trouble. I just give him alot of things and tell him to build/add on or mill or fix without me knowing much about 922r and I guess my hope was that he would tell me but I guess for import arms maybe I will locate another g smith that is in the know or at least ask their opinion before the build.

The two smiths I have working on my guns don't work on foreign semi-autos so I don't think they are knowledgeable about 922 regs. The guy who builds Remington 700's and that's all he does isn't required to know. I'd suggest you talk to Scott's Gunsmithing about it, they have a pretty sharp smith there who knows about this stuff.
