Got to play with my Dead Air Mask some over the weekend. I shot about 15 different types of ammo through it to see what is quiet and if there are any POI issues. I was using my Ruger 10/22 with and without a bolt lock.
First off, it is super quiet with anything from 910 FPS to 1050 FPS. Even standard velocity 1070 FPS is backyard friendly if your neighbors are 100 yards away. My 10/22 is tuned to operate with standard velocity ammo and it also functioned fine with the 910 FPS stuff. I didn't notice any difference in POI whether the bolt was locked or not but there was a little noise out of the port.
I coat my baffles with spray on red grease and they clean easily by hand after spraying with a degreaser. The carbon on the lower baffles needed a little more wiping but still came off easy. I need to order a new ultrasonic cleaner as mine took a jump off the shelf after the shelf was bumped earlier in the year.
Just in case anyone wonders if a suppressor does anything with HV loads, CCI Minimags are still loud when shot through the Mask.
