If I buy a full lower w/receiver and do the ar 15 heavy barrel paper work. Can I go out and have a short barrel sent to my house legally.

Millions of people have an AR rifle and an AR pistol in the same safe, and dogs everywhere nap quietly.

I feel like if the AFT is itemizing your safe, millions of other things have gone wrong in your life and this could be the least of your worries.

    Also, what heavy barrel paperwork??

Are you trying to build an AR pistol or an SBR?

Probably best to just buy/build a pistol lower and whatever length upper you want, apply for your tax stamp, then swap to a stock once your stamp comes in.

Keep in mind that Maryland has minimum length requireme ts for SBRs.

No idea what heavy paperwork you are referring to.

You can not legally put a Short Barrel upper on a rifle lower that is not tax stamped for SBR.

If you want a short barrel upper, the normal path is
Pistol Lower or stripped Lower built as pistol
Attach Short upper, add legal brace to Pistol lower if you choose.
Tax stamp the lower at some point to SBR if you like
Add stock to Lower as long as 29" OAL to be MD compliant.

If you think you can buy a rifle lower assembled, then put a shorter than 16" upper on it, you are not going to be legal.
If you buy a stripped lower, its going to go through 77r as "other".

If you’re talking about building an SBR I’d recommend having the stamp before you’re in possession of a short barrel and no upper that goes along with the lower.

There is no such thing as ar 15 heavy barrel paperwork.

You can buy as many AR 15 (shorter than 16" barrel) uppers you desire.

Don't put a short barreled upper on any lower receiver unless it is a pistol lower or a rifle lower that is registered with the BATF as an SBR lower.

Those are your two choices. Pistol(no rifle stock) or SBR(rifle stock is OK).
