    Yes, you have to weld them. Bending is easy, welding is the trick. Not only do you have to weld the receiver, you have to weld the barrel/trunion in. Maybe someone here would step in and lend you a welder?

    It is. I have one built already. If you like shooting the 308, it's hard to beat. Otherwise you're looking and 450 or more just for a receiver if you want to build one of the FAL's.
     
    It's not really that hard and no special tools needed I've done loads of them. Here is an easy way to do it. This isn't me, but a friend who can bend them as fast as a rabbit can multipy. See attached PDF file below the skill part is in the assembly of the weapon, but not out of the realm of a normal guy with good instruction. Years back when Jesus was a Corporal a bunch of us used to get together over a weekend and have build parties. Kind of like a Tupperware party, someone would bring a welder, another guy a mini-lathe and so on. One time it would be AK's the next time maybe HK's, it was a lot of winter time fun.
