I am probably going to do a steel shoot this month. This is a fun shoot so I am not sure if the holster needs to meet any requirements. I will not be running an optic if that makes a difference.

I read somewhere that the black dog doesn't work well without an optic (too loose). If that is the case, then that is out.

I am going to look at the fobus paddle and read the reviews. There doesn't seem to be a huge selection for such a popular pistol.

I got the plastic one that lets you keep an optic on it. I think it's Triple K. My Mark II has the long 6" barrel. Not really a fast draw rig, it's more just for carrying the pistol around without actually holding it.

Do you need a holster for the steel shoot? I ask, because not all require one. The two I shoot/help with, .22's start from a low ready. When not 'on the line' .22's can either be in a holster, or in a bag/case. Most people go the bag/case route.

Good question. I will have to email the administrator. It is the Southern Lancaster Steel Shoot.

I did find some good reviews on the Tactical Solutions holster. It would seem it is the same thing as the Black Dog and not expensive.

I don't know any steel shoots that even allow rimfire to draw from the holster. Main issue is some of the guns like the older Rugers have a very bad safety for fast use. And since the NRA does not allow the use of a holster without a single action pistol being in cocked and locked mode, and considering how hard it is to disengage the safety on many rimfires I think their rule on the ready position instead of drawing was to prevent accidents from happening. Even the ones with safeties that could be used fast like the Browning are not all that safe either.
