Awhile back, I picked this Brazilian Model 1908 up for what I thought was a decent deal: $140. It looks a bit rough but has an intact crest. The bad thing: The bore had a spot of pitting about half way down the bore. The seller claimed to have shot it and cleaned with WWII era bore solvent but the "pits" didn't budge. The rest of the bore is dark but showing strong rifling.

I managed to buy a small supply of Mexican "F de M" round nose FMJ ammo and some non corrosive Chilean FMJ ammo and tried it out at the range. Afterward, I discovered the "pits" we're gone! Accuracy wasn't bad at 100 yards either.

So was $140 a steal or did I just make out okay?

Well, I think you did very well.

Or it's a piece of crap and I'll help you out and give you what you paid for it so you can offload it.

    :) Congrats!

You you did well. Ignore the pits and shoot it. Assuming it is 7X57 plenty of components are available to load your own.

    Good luck

I actually have a decent supply of PRVI-made ammo (and therefore good brass), but I also have a bunch of non-corrosive Chilean ammo and corrosive Mexican "F de M" FMJ round nose ammo. It's an excellent shooter, so much so that my wife enjoys it (she's a bit recoil sensitive).
