I bought a Mosin before I ever got my C&R license and before I really even knew anything about them. Although I love everything about it the bore is very dark and the rifling is very weak in the last few inches and as such suffers very poor accuracy. What I intend to do is salvage good parts from it to use in case my recent mosin purchase needs any replacements. I also intend to switch the stocks. So I'm wondering how I would log this out of my bound book? Am I technically disposing of it? I searched around the web and couldn't find anything concrete.

If you got it before you got the C&R, you don't have to log it unless and until you dispose of (i.e.sell) it. The receiver is the firearm.

As Bob said, it doesn't go into your bound book unless you sell, trade, or give it away to somebody else.
