I can see the road block from my office building. I was thinking it was yet another accident causing a shut down. Hope they get these guys before 5...

They just got the guy and the loot. GPS tracker in the bank bag.
They located the vehicle and shut the road down to trap it in place.

Its a great way to minimize a chase we shut down Benning rd for stolen cars all the time and walk up towards the stolen car.....you can't flee in a car if there are 25 in front of you and 40 behind you.

    Something about public safety :)

I never understood trying to rob a bank in these times... Do criminals really not understand risk v reward? With bank's security being so tight...Its just not worth it. Also, the amount of cash that banks have on hand isn't like it used to be. I mean, I have to let my bank know if I'm going to be taking out $5,000 or more like 3 business days in advance... Just not worth it.

I remember back in the 90's when I lived in Damascus. Somebody robbed a bank in Damascus and within about 10 minutes there were over one hundred PO's on the road looking for the "alleged" robber.

Damascus is where all of the Montgomery County Police lived at that time. We had about 15 in our neighborhood.

Risk vs. reward in MD. Probably worth it!

Wasn't it last year or 2012 that someone robbed the Suntrust in Damascus and failed to notice the marked MoCo cruiser that just happened to be sitting out front?

A (very short) foot chase ensued.

They still live here. About 6 months ago, someone tried to rob the pnc? bank on main. There was an off duty cop inside and another one pulled into the parking lot while the would be robber was fleeing into the woods across the street. Robbery attempt failed miserably and the almost-robber was picked up within minutes.

Slight correction, County LEO, who is a friend, was sitting in the drive through and noticed the teller was very "nervous" and mouthed the words 'are you being robbed?" and the teller at the drive through nodded in the affirmative, Billy rolled around front just as the guy was running out the door. His accomplice was waiting across the street in the library parking lot. Billy pulled up behind the car as he was trying to back up and his young accomplice was trying to open the door with the money bag in his hand. We all know what happens when you put newer cars in gear THE DOORS LOCK!!! He said he almost laughed at the look on the kids face when he realized he couldn't get in and took off down through the woods. Same 2 guys robbed the SAME BANK a month earlier!!

Do the banks around here not use dye bombs? When I lived in New Yuck, a would-be bank robber made it about 50 yards from the bank before he turned blue. He kept running, but the landlord at his apartment building saw the half-blue face and called the cops.

I think the guys from Heat did it right... I mean they didnt get away, but its a movie. If that shootout happened in real life, I dont think the police could have really done anything to stop them. It reminds me of that bank robbery in California when they two guys were wearing body armor and had the automatic weapons and there was that epic shootout. I heard the police talking about it afterwards, that if the robbers had just left instead of wanting the massive shootout, they would have gotten away. Its amazing that more people didnt get hurt during that massive shootout.
