D.C. Council member Marion Barry yesterday introduced legislation that would suspend the District's 30-year ban on handguns, providing gun owners a 90-day period to register weapons they would then be allowed to legally own.

I don't even know where to begin on the faulty logic of a 90 day window, but it is a step in the right direction. At least he has indirectly admitted that legal gun ownership helps reduce crime, not create it.

On the other hand, it could be that they want to generate a list of names and addresses for any future confiscation operations.

It doesn't seem like it would allow residents to buy NEW guns and register them....it's more of an amnesty to those already in posession of a handgun.

It's just a way for them to "register" more guns.

Hard to say what the true motives are with this.....

Yup....just trying to get the names and addresses of the last few that may have legally bought them so that they can round them up.
