Looking for some info regarding the steps necessary for inletting a stock for a bottom metal conversion. Currently has internal magazine and I want to go to AICS or similar mags.

    Couple questions -
    1. anyone local that can do the work for me?
    2. any concerns I should have with doing the work myself?
    3. any other parts needed besides the bottom metal and mags?
    4. can I use all the other existing parts, trigger, etc?

Hit up Bob Green in York, PA.

Or, you can just purchase a chasis system like the AICS, McCree, XLR, TacMod, and i'm sure a few others out there make something that works as well with the AI style mags.

I would recommend against setting it up yourself unless you can do a clean job of inletting the stock because the mags to have to sit at a certain depth to feed right and installing the pillars.

While you're at it go ahead and glass bed the action too.

I picked up a choate stock from a member here a little while back. I have a SA Remington 700 in 308. I have been accumulating parts and researching different things. Got a deal on the bottom metal and just need to get it set up in the stock with the action. Working on getting a new barrel but trying to do this thing in stages while working on my other builds

get rid of that choate and pick you up an already inlet stock that is lighter and stronger. you can find them used for pretty cheap, hell even a PSS takeoff stock is good.

What bottom metal do you have?

If you insist on inletting the choate I recommend you take it to a smith.

I understand the choate isn't the best stock in the world, but it will serve its purpose for my intent. I already sent an email to bob, thanks for the recommendation
