There have been several threads posted here on the process and many videos on YouTube. I reviewed a lot of them. Some make it look easy - and others concur with my experience: it ain't the easiest thing to do.

Recently, I brought my WASR-10 out for a Hooligan range day. I noticed a couple of very small surface rust spots. :sad20: Since this is the only AK variant I can own legally as a Marylandistan resident, I figured taking special care of it made good sense!

Back on my bench. I stripped the rifle and refinished all the metal. That process included R&R of the safety's "shepherd's hook spring" that also holds the hammer and trigger pins in place on this AK.

Well, even after my function tests, I'd missed one critical part: The spring was not latched into the trigger pin groove! We learned that this morning. After a few rounds today the trigger pin began to back out. Not good! The rifle was "benched"!

After many more cuss words tonight, I KNOW the spring is installed correctly. But what a PITA to deal with!

I plan to replace the spring with a Krebs or Tapco plate. They're inexpensive aftermarket replacement parts that look like they will work much better.

    Your recommendations?
