Hello, and thank you for for the opportunity to participate in this community.
I'm new to firearm ownership this year but having firearms of my own has been a goal ever since I was little and would visit my grandpa's house in the Catskills region of Upstate NY and see his rifle and shotgun mounted on his wall at the top of the stairs on a gun rack composed of four deer hoofs he brought home himself, a gun rack I have in my home today. He was a proud NRA member, hunter, fly fisherman, patriot, he was my role model in many ways. Sadly, his children were not fond of firearms and his guns left the family once he became incapable of caring for them responsibly.
Flash forward many years and I now have my own family and with families come great responsibilities not least of which is self-protection. As Covid began its spread early this year, it rapidly became apparent that segments of our society do not weather storms well. That plus everything happening up the road in DC and the situation seems like its going to get worse before it gets better... best be prepared.
I've acquired a Liberty Safe for gun and ammo storage, though I wish I had gotten a bigger one. I've got an old 22LR rifle and 12GA pump for now. Looking to get into autoloading rifles and shotguns (magazine/box fed) as well as a handgun or two principally for home defense/personal protection. Also exploring USCCA to see what they have to offer.
I look forward to engaging with you all in conversations about firearms, shooting sports, and everything related. Please be patient with all the questions I'm sure to pepper you with as a relative newcomer to firearms ownership.
