They looking for already having a poly, or ready to go with the poly?

If you already have a security clearance, then no polygraph is required. If not, the company can sponsor you but it won't be able to place you into a position until the background checks are complete.

What if someone unwisely let their clearance TS/SCI w DOJ/DOD expire 12-18 moths ago, would they be back at square one?

Depends how far you are out of scope. When was your last poly/reinvestigation? Also depends on what agency held the clearances. Sadly, not all TS/SCIs are equal :sad20:

I believe your clearance has to be inactive for 24 months before you are required to go through the full BI process again. You are probably eligible for a reinstatement if you have the type of clearance required for the position.
