I got in good with the upper management secretaries at work, using my savior faire and being suave and deboner. They would help me out on non IT issues. The IT help desk covered IT.

I'm 5 steps away from any pure clerical people , and wouldn't know where to find one .

2 or 3steps in chain above me I'm trying to avoid groveling and humiliating , and only for direct work stuff .

Admin Assistants, from what I gather, are not what you seek.

Not groveling if you drop off some stuff and engage in conversation, develop a relationship, etc. The Exec secretaries I deal with saved me a lot of headache by letting them review first as they knew what was required.

    Good luck!

I sorta know what Bigfoot is asking for, I think. I often have computer stuff questions and since he is an IT guy he can generally help me. Like said previously, he needs a younger more computer savy family member.

    Serious , not a joke .

I an a mostly computer illiterate Luddite . Seriously , beyond posting on Gun Boards I'm stumped. It's been coming on for a couple years , but as so called progress marches on , the gap has now become a total disconnect . And in recent years " thinking " I could do it , and it actually was screwed up has Seriously bit me on the butt .

In society's downward spiral , too many important/ mandatory things are computer only , with no physical reality alternatives. After one more even worse occurrence of seemingly following supposedly simple and intuitive direction and process , no matter what I do , crap just vaporizes into the nether , disappearing without doing anything or going anywhere . Like twilight zone s*** .

I know my Limitations. I wouldn't try to rebuild my own automatic transmission, or perform vascular surgery on myself . I'd engage a Pro , for whom it's simple with hardly a thought .

But I don't know the terminology to describe what I seek .

    ***************************>

I need guaranteed once a year important stuff , plus maybe a couple more randomly throughout the year .

Asking people just gets me blank looks . I'm beyond my tolerance of begging friends . I'm thru with groveling to superiors. I just want an on call consultant/ administrative aide / technician/ whatever they would be called pro . Perform a service without showing pity on the stupid backwards client .

Retainer / flat rate for service / hourly / combination , whatever is semi customary.

When I contact established outfits of suitable field, and ask " Do you offer ( something something services ) what do I ask for , that they would comprehend ?

If I initiate an open request for freelancer , how do I describe what I need . I know that " Do computer S*** for me " is not helpful or constructive.

Are there any industry standard descriptions of phrases ? Logically there had to be .
Are you looking for personal asssitant or for your computer?

It's been 20some years from when Mrs Biggfoot went to Computer School . She's kept up with each accounting program at her work , but not with " regular everyday " computer stuff .

Just from her age group , Littlefoot44 ought to know everything .

But from both of them , they either can't figure what I'm asking , or it's I Dunno . My former helper moved . My knowledgeable MDS friends , or my BIL can rattle off for 20 minutes straight ,and I have no idea what they said , because they're probably giving grad school answers to kindergarten questions . When I ask for clarification , they explain with one level lower answer . After 5 or 6 rounds deep , we both throw our hands up .

just type in pornhub in your browser bar and there you go. The browser bar is the horizontal space where you can type in anything you are looking for. If not porn you can still ask in the browser bar for help.
For instance, I wanted to block a phone number in my Droid. I typed in the browser bar the question, "how to block a number in my android" guess what, I got the answer.

Do s*** online that is simple to everyone else , and that I've even been telling people is simple .
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the problem with getting help isn't the subject matter but the communication style. A lot of people have asked what you mean by that, and we still really, truly don't know what you're talking about. Are you having trouble signing into your bank account to check your balance? Trouble getting online to pay property taxes? Trouble looking at your retirement account to rebalance some holdings? Trouble attaching a picture to an email? Trouble checking out of an online store like Amazon? Trouble printing a document someone has sent you? Trouble doing an online/remote meeting with a doctor or relative or such?

I'm NOT picking on you. But if you said you were having trouble with "pen and paper stuff," anyone who might be inclined to help is going to wonder if it's architectural drawings, signing a will, writing checks, scanning a hand-written recipe to send to a cousin by email ... or what? Understand that I'm really, really trying to help here. But it strikes me that the problem with getting help is probably not far removed from the problem you're showing here: just communicating clearly. Nobody's asking you to know some specific industry jargon. But "computer stuff" is like saying "driving stuff." A tractor? An RV? A grocery run? Not being sarcastic. I'm trying to help you hear yourself so you can just slow down for a second and be clearer. Take that extra two minutes to just SAY what it is you're trying to do so that people weighing help, or where to point you for it, might have some sense of what you're talking about.

Get an iPad and do all your computer stuff through an app. Banking, paying bills, etc… those companies should all have apps.

Unless you’re coding, there is no real need for computers anymore. Apps just make everything easy.

****Yea, it is amazing but there are apps for just about anything you can think of tech wise. Also hardware now! iPads are awesome!

Other hardware available as well from what I understand. Deadly nice looking too!

A couple years ago , when I had a wild hair to dabble with ( music) recording / mixing/ editing , everybody was like " Apple is Better ! Apple is Better ! Apple is Better " . So I got one .

Stared at it for 20 minutes . Other than turning on , it had no finger pad or joy stick , and had no clicker . Other than turning on and off I could do literally Nothing with it .

So , I guess I'm just trapped in the loop of : Don't Know what I don't Know . Closely related to : If I knew ( whatever ) well enough to describe exactly what I need to do , I'd probably have 70% probability of knowing what to do , and 50/ 50 guess the rest , and figure it myself .

I just need to do a modified ERuby .

I don’t know but I think you were preset to hat it. Lol. With a tablet recording, mixing and editing would literally be like an old school recording device/mixing device on the screen of a tablet. It would be just moving your fingers on the buttons and dials on a digital touchscreen. The whole screen is a finger pad. The whole screen is a click button. If you want a joy stick, I believe any ps5 controller or even an Xbox joystick would work with an iPad.

Apps have changed a lot over the years. But I dont know what you were using. There is always limitations and some stuff I pad apps are not capable of doing. But 90+% of home use, iPad probably does it the same if not better. I am not an iPad fan boy.

Apple is better than Samsung tablet on screen brightness and quality. After a learning curve on a tablet, I don’t think you ll ever go back. Lol. But getting over that learning curve does suck.

    I prefer windows over Mac.
