Just picked up a Glock 29 G4 10MM handgun and am looking for advice on defensive rounds. For woods defense, I'm planning on some high velocity, high weight hardcast bullet, but haven't decided on something for 2 legged defense.

Several rounds that stuck out to me for one reason or another (both good and bad):

    DoubleTap Equalizer:
    http://www.doubletapammo.net/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=42

Kind of looks like a DoubleTap double tap, right? Looks kind of gimmicky to me and I worry about overpenetration. What about other DoubleTap HP ammo? I like that it's loaded hotter as it'll probably give better expansion (and maybe keep penetration down) but I've seen some negative stuff about DT ammo. Opinions?

    Hornady Critical Defense:
    http://www.hornady.com/store/10mm-Auto-175-GR-Flexlock-Critical-Duty/

Images of the expansion are just nasty looking (check picture). Something like 0.60" at maximum. And this is on top of pretty deep, but not excessive penetration (probably due to such huge expansion).

    Federal Vital-Shok:
    https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1...n-trophy-bonded-jacketed-soft-point-box-of-20

Again, expansion and penetration are pretty impressive.

There are plenty of other options out there, but I'm interested in what you guys have to say.

I'm planning to buy a .40S&W conversion barrel, so recommendations in that caliber are appreciated as well. Hell, if you want to tell me about great .357SIG rounds, go ahead. I could always get that conversion barrel instead!

I've also been trying to decide on range ammo, so again advice is appreciated. I'm leaning towards Sellier & Bellot currently as the price is pretty much as low as you can go and reviews are almost completely positive.

for plinking i've always like the blazer aluminum

for hd/sd i'd pick fed hydra shocks.

i sent back the 10mm underwood i had as the primers weren't igniting in my g20.

    I own 6 10mm handguns. used to own 7. sorry I don't still.

If you're gonna shoot alot, get into reloading. 10mm ammo is not cheap.

For SD, Underwood all the way. I like their 180 1300 FPS XTP. Not cheap but it's SD Ammo

The Winchester 175g Silvertips are good it you can find them..

If you want Speer bonded aka Gold dots try these.

For range use I use the Freedom munitions stuff. decent enough for practice

Give Underwood a look. They have a large variety of ammo and it's all full power. I would recommend the lighter commercial loads for training/practice. I have a bunch of Remington for that. I usually get the Remington in bulk when it's available and the price isn't outrageous. Great choice on the pistol. It's the only Glock I don't have in 10mm.

I concur about Underwood. Their loads are no joke.

Good thread. I've often wondered why they don't make a midsize 10mm like they do in 9mm(19) and 40s&w(23).

The G29 is closer in size to the G19 or G23 than any other. I carry it frequently. I have an SF. It's a beast.

Glock calls it a subcompact but it really isn't.

Both my G20SF and the 29SF have never been fed factory ammo so I'm not much help from that end, but I must say I enjoy shooting both more so than any of my other pistols with the diet of Bluedot and 180's that they feed on.

slight difference. the G29 is more similar to a G19 than to other Glock subcompacts like the G27 Glock calls the G29 a subcompact. IMO it's clearly not

Buffalo bore hollows. Haven't had my G29 gen 4 fail on me no matter what I put through it. 100 rounds of CCI blazer right out the box, no cleaning or lubing. Worked without a hiccup.

it's kinda a tie but IMO the G29 is closer to a compact than a subcompact, especially the G29 with it's beefier frame and weight.

    YMMV.
