I purchased a KABAR knife for $70 and it has made in the USA and the USMC on the sheath which is leather. How do I know if this is a real issue type or a replica? It is the brown leather handle and black full tang blade.

KaBars made today are not Mil issue . The knife is actually designated the MKII and the only company making them directly for the military as of now is Ontario . Camillus (the original maker ) was supplying them too until they closed shop a bunch of years ago .

If memory serves KaBar has not made a Mil Issue MKII since before Vietnam . They were all commercial at that point .

During Vietnam they were all made by Utica , Camillus and Conneta .

When I was in the Corps in the 80s they were sold for 20 bucks in the PX. Nearly every Marine bought one and carried it in the field.

So while they weren't issue they were pretty standard.

I've still got mine and it is a great knife. Enjoy it.

This is just me but I would stay away from the new ones . Spend a little bit more money and get a older Camillus MKII . The new Kabar MKIIs have that baked enamel finish on them instead of be blued and or parkerized like the original issue ones . The current MKIIs by Ontario are parkerized but the handles are a bit rough , I would still take one of those over the Kabar .

Yikes...at that price there are a lot of options sporting more capability, IMO. If they are going that high, I want a G10 or Micarta handle and a full flat grind!!!

Nah, I think those are like Ruger's MSRP's. Ask for the sun, settle for the moon. I've seen them at knife, I mean gun shows and Bass Pro for around $70.
