Are those Skinner sights?I bought these two JM marked 1895s in .45-70 two years ago off Gun Broker.
The blued one was lightly used, The stainless one came from Alaska and it had never been fired. It came in the Marlin box with all the tags and stickers still attached.
Marlin Marlins - Not Remlins.
I paid way less than 1/5th what this 30-30 went for.
I don't get it......No way that gun is worth 1/5th that price (except to the guy who bought it)

I'm a member of the "Lever Action Rifle and Skinnersights Group" on Facebook - not because I have Skinner sights on anything, but because I love lever action rifles. I think Skinner sights look fantastic, and they're clearly very functional, but I don't really have a rifle I'd be willing to put them on - all of my lever guns are old and/or collectible.Yes. Skinner Alaskan on the Stainless 1895 and Skinner Express on the blued one. They did not come that way, I added them.

I've been keeping my eyes open for one of these from this timeframe for a while to replace the one that I used as a kid that got sold at the auction for my Dad's stuff. The problem with the 39A is that almost no one ever wants to sell them - it's the Cadillac of 22 rifles. The only other one that even comes close, IMO, is the Winchester Model 1890, but personally I believe it falls short of the 39A.I have 5 levers, currently...
1. Henry Frontier Threaded .22lr
2. Henry .410 24"
3. 1979 Winchester 94 XTR 30-30
4. Marlin 39A from 1946 (only pic I had was with the Winchester 1890)
5. Uberti Navy Arms 1860 Henry 44-40

I've got an 1890, but it's in pretty rough shape - I wish I could find a period-correct barrel for it because the barrel that's currently on it is an unmarked octagonal generic barrel. It shoots well, but it would be nice to have one with the Winchester markings.
That's a nice collection you have there.
What is it about a lever action gun? Just plain sexy to me.
Wow. Why can I never stumble into deals like that?My 39A was a "tweaker find" for lack of better terms. Guy's dad died and I got a bunch of guns for like $50 each...this was the best of the bunch and I sold the rest.
