I've been signed up for this forum for a while but have never posted much (if at all in this account).

I've decided to start posting some because while I do agree with many of you about the 2a, I find that there's a propensity on here to assume that gun owners are conservative/Republican. Of which, I'm neither!

I look forward to some possible spirited debates. Though not about gun issues because while I may be a bleeding heart communist liberal in many ways, I love my guns, want more and I'll be damned if O'Malley is going to come take them! :)

Welcome, I hope you have a thick skin! I look forward to spirited discussion, because speaking in an echo chamber does not do anybody any good.

I am happy that a lot of pro-gun people turned out at the Feb 6th rally.

I think it goes to show that gun rights doesn't have to be a Republican vs Democrat issue. There are plenty of Democrats who believe in gun rights. I think some times the pro-gun lobby does itself a disservice by not reaching out to Democrats who are pro-2a.

I agree, if I was a democratic strategist I would be telling the party leadership to drop gun control as a plank in the platform. There are a lot of pro-gun people that might otherwise vote democratic. I think there are a very few that are hard core anti-gun zealots, and a bunch who think gun control really would work if given a chance.

There are also probably some who hope to lose the gun control battle, because they know it won't really reduce crime, winning would take away the chance to demonize republicans, and most seriously because the real solutions to violent crime are much more difficult.

+1 to all these posts. I don't limit myself to thinking along either party line. I research and make my own decision. I also prioritize the issues I feel strongly about. When my constitutional rights are threatened, that pretty much takes top priority.
It is an uphill battle, especially in MD, but I try to reach out to those who take an anti gun stance out of party affiliation and ignorance and try to bring them to at least seeing some of the gun rights side.
