Looking for information on sight setting for a CMP service grade M1 Garand.

Took it to the range twice, and sighted it in at 50 yds. Both times, the elevation was bottomed out, and it was dead center on a 4" circle with a 6 o'clock hold.

I am going to the CMP range near Talladega, AL, and was wondering how many clicks up elevation is needed for 600yds.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Ammo will be the 150 grn M1 ammo from S&B or PPU.

From a 100 yard zero, expect to be around 15-17 minutes up. That will put you in the black, but I don't know that ball ammo will keep you there. A match bullet is going to be a whole lot more friendly.

We used to pull 150 ball ammo and seat a 150 Sierra matchking. Called Mexican match.

Thanks Folks. I am back from the CMP range. It was an experience to say the least. It is $30 for Adults all day, $15 for kids all day. You need to qualify from the 100 yd range to go to the 200-600 range. At the 200-600 yd range, you need to qualify to move from the 200 yd, 300 yd, and finally to the 600 yd targets. The targets are electronically scored so you can see your shots almost instantly.

Your previous posts are pretty close to what happened. From the 300 mark (~ 6 clicks up from 100 yds), the RSO moved the sights up 12 clicks, and we walked it in from there.

The range card (good for 1 yr) is what lets you shoot at 600 yds next time you go to the range without having to requalify. The admission price is a bit high, but it offers quite a few ranges, the latest being an unknown distance range.

There are some restrictions on AR and AK pistols, along with large caliber rounds (.50 BMG, .408 Cheytac, and such).

    Thanks for the reference material.
