Depends how close he was to the school. School property is one of the places where open carry of shotguns is verboten. The article says he was "walking the perimeter". He was probably within the prohibited distance.

This is right around the corner from me. (My elementary alma-mater at that) I was home when it happened. He was on school property. People cut through the school parking lot and ball fields all the time. County PD flooded the neighborhood in a matter of minutes. No one was ever at risk.

This is the kind of stuff that hurts us and gives us a bad name, sure its our right to openly carry a rifle outdoors unloaded, but he should have known that it would have done nothing but create panic and cause trouble

So question if the gun was a muzzleloader, unless you readily possess all the components to make it fire, it's not legally a gun according to the ATF anyway. So can he be charged with carrying one??

Possibly disturbing the peace or disturbing school activity/something like that could be a charge.

If he was trying to make a statement, why do it on an elementary school of all places? Yes open cary is legal, but that's the stupidest place to make a statement ESPECIALLY in the I-95 corridor where people arent used to guns.

Perhaps it's to force the AG to clarify his comments from Willard? I agree if this was the point, he picked the wrong place.

If what you say is in fact the case, or for any similar reason, he was being just plain stupid, without regard for public safety or his own. If in fact he did not know better, he was ignorant at best and in any case, (ignorant or stupid), should not be in possession of any potentially dangerous weapon.:sad20:

I'm thinking he was not trying to make a statement. Like I said, people cut through the school's property all the time when walking through the neighborhood. I have a feeling it was mostly ignorance and stupidity; that he was going to meet the person who he rode off with and that was just the most direct way. If it hadn't been dismissal time, he might not have even been noticed.

Also once more I'll give credit to County PD for their response time.
