The article leaves out the fact that he was prohibited from previous charges, at least two of which involved illegal possession of a firearm. He also has CDS charges, trespassing, and several others, but I only looked quickly. His first car theft was before he was even 17.
How many convictions. Charges don't mean anything regarding prohibited person status.
An extended family member was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, a firearm, based only on the words of a neighbor. He never has never owned a gun. He even, foolishly, let Boston police search his home. The cops didn't care. They said they had to arrest and charge him because the a-hole neighbor said he had a gun.
Mind you this family member is kind of a jerk. But he didn't deserve that BS.
Yet he is still not prohibited from owning guns, but for his own extreme anti-gun mindset.

WBAL has gone completely in the toilet over the last few years.

During COVID I emailed their news director about some blatant false reporting they were doing on COVID case numbers and their news director responded with a link to a Politico.com article to prove he was right.

That was the last time I ever listened to the station or looked at their website. WBAL is run by morons.
They were just following the Comey example. Leaked the false dossier to the NYT they claimed it was verified because the NYT published it.

let's face it, the firearms laws are so complex even us and the cops can't seem to figure it all out. it sounds like for the case referenced here, it was an add-on charge or just another pile on charge for a real bad buy.

hopefully if we ccw-card-carrying members mistakenly happen to break a law, leo and courts will go gently on us but who knows. example, you get a flat tire by a school and pull into the lot to change it, sure there are another thousand examples.

    Obliterated serial No too!
Or is that no longer illegal?
Still illegal but traded away along with several other possible charges in getting an admission of guilt to save them the trouble of actually trying him. The prosecutors get to add one more to the convicted column without having to work hard and the perp gets off with two year sentence out in less instead of the 5 or 10 + he might have been liable for if tried. Win win for both sides and the only losers are the public when this guy gets out and goes back to his chosen lifestyle of preying on others.

So, what was the probably cause for the officers to stop this guy while he was knocking on a door?

My guess is that there was a lot more going on than a person merely carrying a gun within 1,000 feet of a school. Why did he ride away from officers and why did they continue to pursue him?

Just feels like this story is really light on the particulars.

Prosecutors said 31-year old Malcolm Goods was found with a pistol a block away from Sandtown-Winchester Achievement Academy in September 2021.

Goods rode off from responding officers on a bicycle. Officers later found him knocking on someone’s front door and arrested him.

A HA! always a bigger picture to the story! Surprised he even had the gun on him still by the time they found him beating on a door..
Yup, if your able to create distance from the “situation”, why wouldn’t you hide it. I think that’s covered in chapter 1 of their handbook. Arrested for being stupid!

He was knocking on someone’s front door? He’s lucky he wasn’t shot!

Yeah, this guy sounds like a troubled child. But to be honest i would never pull over in a school zone i would run my flashers and pull up out of that area just for chits and giggles.

I guess it was about 8 days ago a traffic accident in front of Southern High School on Rte 2 in Lothian blocked the road. Officers routed traffic through the school parking lot, which also had a drop off Ballot Box and was soon to be a voting location.

I stopped and waited, live to carry another day.

Glad to find this post as after reading the WBAL report I started with how it is possible to Federally Charge someone that was caught by Local Police?

Further, another case of good policing and mediocre prosecuting. Likely the plea got him “the time” he deserved and the government didn’t need to litigate the BCP’s p.c. in front of a jury of his peers.
Federal guilty plea means he isn’t getting out early in parole. Plus he doesn’t cost the state money in prison or on parole later.

glad they removed the restrictions from the permits seems that we all could be charged with that for the slightest error…
It wasn’t removed. The GFSZA always exempted permit holders from the 1000 foot limit. If you are licensed by the state the school is in

The original was challenged on commerce clause grounds and then rewritten

MD only prohibits carry on school, property

The Federal system does not allow parole. You do the entire sentence

By restrictions I meant time of day or firearms you could carry that were on some permits. Officer told me that a permit holder could be charged with the gun free zone violation if they were carrying outside of the time restrictions etc. I don’t know maybe he was incorrect…

GFSZ doesn't apply for holders of that state's permit. You'd have to have a VA permit, not a VA recognized permit like MD, to be in a VA school zone.
Just curious how many times people have been charged for carrying within 1000 feet of a school with a recognized permit from out of state.

what if your house is in a school zone? was it illegal because of 15 rounds or because it wasn’t on the gun roster?
