    Hi all,

I currently own a grandfathered Steyr AUG
which I am trying to sell to an individual who lives
    in Virginia.

Is such a sale legal for MD residents? How would
this work? Obviously We need to go through an FFL,
but what are the steps involved?

    Thank you

Mail it to his FFL with a copy of your DL inside and get your money or have your FFL mail it to his FFL done.its very very easy

Or drive down to his FFL. Meet person there, collect money, hand rifle to FFL, leave.

FFL logs it in, logs it out to the buyer and charges a fee.

Selling a piece I couldn't rebuy would be hard for me but I do understand that circumstances sometimes require sacrificing material objects. I've had to do it once or twice myself. Good luck with the sale!

I wonder if it would be legal for him to rent it to me.

Like a lifetime rental for the cost of buying???

    :lol2:

Do you even need an FFL to sell it to a Virginia resident? While I've never done it, I was under the impression that FTF rifle sales are perfectly legal in Va.

OP is in MD. Can't sell across state lines without an FFL.

I was also under the impression that as long as it is legal to own in both states... a FTF transfer is good to go. If it is a banned rifle in Va., then that's different... would it be banned in Va.? I don't think it is. Va. ain't Md.

It has to go through an FFL even if it's legal in both states due to Interstate Commerce rules and regs.

Not banned here, but they must be in the same state.

    YES.

VA resident to VA resident is fine. If the firearm crosses state lines, an FFL has to be involved.

    FEDERAL law, since 1968.

How may an unlicensed person receive a firearm in his or her State that he or she purchased from an out–of–State source?

An unlicensed person who is not prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms may purchase a firearm from an out–of–State source, provided the transfer takes place through a Federal firearms licensee in his or her State of residence.

    [18 U.S.C 922(a)(3) and 922(b)(3); 27 CFR 478.29]

I stand corrected... I found this... of all places... on the BATFE website.:o
