I am trying to collect some basics of the MD gun law.

I am a gun owner and have most of the concepts in mind but would like to read the details of some basics. It seems MDSP site does not list these details on its web site? I did not find it.

For example, handgun purchase procedure (HQL, transferred by FFL, background check, etc), rifle purchase procedure (e.g. what rifle needs to be transferred by a FFL, what is considered regulated rifle, etc), shotgun purchase procedure, firearm transportation (to a range, to a gun smith, to a gun shop, etc.) castle law, reloading (limit of the amount of gun powder van be stored at home )etc.

Also, what is going on with MD handgun roster? The link on MDshooters.com home page dose not work.

    Many thanks!

I could spend 20 minutes answering your questions, only to have the thread mysteriously disappear for no known reason.
It's sad, because answering questions like yours SHOULD be one of the most important contributions this forum makes to the community.

I'll just post some links that may or may not be helpful to you. I hope they are.

So much for brief introductions ... a noob with questions ...

I really hate the practice of blowing off serious inquiries with a " go use search yourself" type of response. Srarch feature sucks, good inforfation is burried inside long threads. One of thr thinks we do here is spread information.

BUT !!!! I'm sorry but this is overload. You've hit every topic in the state in one post, except for minium handgun requirements for deer hunting.

some people must type way faster than me, 20min wouldn't get me half way to barely scratching the surface. Detailed aanswers, with a little bit of historical context, would literally be a book.

Ask us a specific question on one, maybe two topics if they are related to each other , we"ll help you out. But for mass information dumps, you'll have to do some combination of :

Use the links given in this thread. Search MDS. Consult the original sources, statutes, COMAR, MDSP SOP's , court cases, Atty General Opinion Letters, etc.

Search on any forum is poor at best. Then you have to go through all the "yuk, yuk, yuk" comments made. Poor answer.

"Search" us actually a very good answer, the problem is the inability to search have smartly. Too many enablers makes learning impossible for most.

Here is a good place to start:
    http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/maryland.pdf

Then if you use Google Search to search this forum and phrase your search like this:

Maryland Shooters (then your topic) for example

    Maryland Shooters handgun purchase procedure

    You will get good results.

All of your topics have been covered in detail in multiple threads since you joined in 2012 you just need to come to the forum more often and read the threads as they are posted and you would have already had your answers before you asked the question. Now it is time to go back and get caught up in your reading.

    As for searches on MDS:

The search engine here sucks. I don't care how skilled a Searcher you are, the greatest researcher can be limited by crappy tools and the vbulletin search tool is a POS. I often get no results at all searching for posts I know exist and which I know have unusual words in them.

You will get better results using Google. This is one way to use Google to search MDS, the Google Custom Search.
    https://cse.google.com/cse/home?cx=001327550467389317477:tpxpy9fpw3q&hl=en

I suggest you bookmark that; put it on your toolbar, or even tattoo it on the back of your hand for easy reference.

Now, as for the OPs questions. Rereading the Original Post, I have to say the questions are not typical. Much of it seems to be variations on "what is the procedure to buy a gun?"

Frankly, the short answer to that question is, "Go to the gun store and fill out whatever forms the federally licensed dealer tells you to fill out. Provide all requested identification. Wait as long as necessary while all Federal and State background checks are conducted."

Guns are regulated out the wazoo. There are multiple layers of government forms, identification requirements, and redundant background checks. Many people unfamiliar with the process are AMAZED to learn that. Perhaps they have believed the oft-repeated nonsense and outright lies about "buying guns over the internet" or "no-questions asked machine gun sales at gun shows."

People who spread those lies are either pig-headed bloviating fools, or they are dishonest people pushing an agenda.

Gun sales are already heavily regulated and subject to multiple background checks. The answer to the question, "What is the procedure for buying this type of gun?" is to let the licensed gun dealer walk you through it.
