LOL! OCJ - That's got to be some kind of longevity record for you :D

You should stop by. I'm going through all of my hunting/shooting stuff as I pack to move. I have a TON of stuff (boxes) I want to sell for cheap. A good bit is still NIB.

So, how does the bolt cycle, and accuracy do now that it's melonited.

The bolt cycles like glass! and since I had the sear sent in to be processed in another lot of parts, it is one of the crispest best trigger breaks on a mosin ever.

As for accuracy, she shoots exactly the same as she did before, with a very very slight shift in point of impact to the right.

The beautiful lustrous black is just gorgeous! Never had a mosin with a black bolt before.

I now have a couple of SKSs with black bolts and carriers as well- and dust covers :)

You can see it in some of these pictures how it is almost irridescent in the right light.

I feel much less hesitant shooting corrosive ammo through her now, and I know that even shooting steel jacketed ammo I will never shoot this barrel out now, nor will it rust, inside or out.

It is just such a good feeling to make your metal invincible to rust and wear!!!!!!

What is Macodoc' s method. Is this some trade secret for gun repair or can anyone know it. Just asking not knowing if I spelled it right.

His rejuvination method works good on the dark brown wood Type 53 mosins and dark brown wood SKS. Not applicable for a mosin which is shellac'd.

Macodoc method for a Shellac'd mosin might be his love of lighter fluid (substitute for mineral spirits) or the go jo creme w/o pumice when he's in a "rubbing" mood.

    Resurrect!

Filled a gap in my collection today. Have a 91/30 and very nice M44 been wanting a M38 for a while. Raided the Yellowsled collection for this one. Very nice example, wish I had bought these when they were more reasonable. Its also a triangle 1 which is the contentious "DDR" marking.

Now I just need a 91 and a Finn or two.

    Congrats!! Very nice carbine.

Also- nothing contentious about the triangle 1 stamp. It's meaning has been known for a couple of years now. It definitely has NOTHING to do with DDR/East Germany. It's the mark of the repair facility where the rifle went through refurb.

Dug this up today and decided to bump the thread. 1942 Izzy still in Cosmo. I actually have two of them, got them at the same time and never even removed the cosmo from either one.
