    Welcome.

I get it that it is temporary, and you are moving to a specific residence on purpose.

You can bring your handguns, subject to the mandatory registration. Just be careful that your range trips are specific range trips, and not transporting the rest of the day while going about your regular business.

    Dont Move!!!

Hey everyone, I'm new to this board and will soon be new to Maryland. I'm moving from Indiana to Maryland it's unfortunately not avoidable. I'm a very active shooter here in Indy, and while I don't compete I do enjoy my weekly range times. With that in mind it seems to me that the law in MD is quite vague in a few areas, and I'd like some clarification before I move out.

    • Should I even bring my guns?
I've read many articles on this topic, regarding banned firearms, copy cat firearms, etc. From my understanding my fire arms (Kimber Ultra Cary and a Canik TP9SA) don't fall into either of these categories. However the Canik has a high capacity magazine which renders it illegal to be sold in MD, does it also mean I can't own one in MD and do I need to register it?

    • Even if I do bring them, transporting them like a battle in and of themselves.
From what I've read there are only a few ways you can legally transport a firearm (the law I'm reading is here). I'd prefer to keep doing my usual routine of going to the shooting range every week (if prices will allow it). However it seems as though the burden of proof for transporting your firearms between your house and a target practice are fall on you. Am I better off just leaving my firearms in the care of a friend / relative and renting in this state?

I'm sorry for all of the questions, but finding good advice on these topics has proven very difficult.

    Dont Move!!!

Master Cat-first off, ignore all the "Don't Move Here" jack asses, easy to say but they live here don't they? Life doesn't always let you move where you want. At least it only sounds temporary. There are 2 indoor ranges within 20 min of TU if you're leery about bringing your guns. But there is enough good info here to get you up to speed on what to do if you bring them. Just enjoy your time here. Lots to see and do and lots of good food. Towson is a great area. And mountains and beaches are not far away. I'm a TU grad and it's gotten to be a big school these days but not too big if you know what I mean.

    Welcome to MDS, Master Cat!

Your introduction post is impressive and well organized. Great questions that have received great responses already. There is a lot of good information here on the forum. Have a look around. Also, the marylandshallissue site has a 2A resource room with a wealth of useful info, the name is a little misleading - the organization has a much wider focus than just attempting to get our state to a shall issue status.

The MSP site is a bit confusing, but yes, you have to register your handguns :( Note that if you plan to purchase any handguns that are not in the C&R category while here, a handgun qualification license is required, otherwise, after registering your handguns, find some ranges, follow the transport laws and you'll be fine.

What a fine state you are departing - big fan of Mike Pence here! But we do have a few things to offer and what better reason to move than a promising future with a woman you love with opportunities for both of you? I'm sure you can make the best of the situation while here.

Stick around, try to get to a few MDS meetups/organized shoots/ranges and you'll soon agree you have found one amazing community here in MDS, warts and all :)

If you want to learn to shoot something other than paper (boring), come to Loch Raven Skeet and Trap Center and I will loan you a shotgun and introduce you to something really fun. 10 minutes from Towson.

Welcome. There are many us here from the Towson, Timonium, Cockeysville area. Lots to do and as Rico said, a number of ranges, both public and private around. Where are you going to be living? You said the boss has a house, what area?

Welcome Aboard, I've stated this before and again, there some decisions no getting around with what you have to do. Yes there are obstacles, but you can avoid the headaches by searching and finding the appropriate information, this is a very helpful place. This will help

No AR's then you can purchase what is legal here or wait till you move again and abide by that locations laws...

Maryland is awesome. It really is. Chesapeake Bay, beach, mountains, history..... Access to a lot of cool things in not a lot of driving time. BWI offers flights to everywhere and cheap due to SWA.

I was a transplant as well. I came here in 1988. It was civil back then. But now the politics have made this place almost unbearable.

I stay because we are established now, and I have the boat.

It isn't New York, and it isn't California.

Just be prepared to be taxed to death, and have your 2A right curtailed but not cut off.

Welcome from Marriottsville. We are the western boundary of sanity.

    Welcome Master Cat.

Another downside to the People's Republic is you won't be able to get a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich anywhere.

    th

I was at the Giant Bar this past weekend in Fairmont having lunch... Tenderloin was larger than the plate..

Not really, pork can be had anywhere.... . ;)

Nope.... You can't get a Tenderloin like you can in Indiana. :party29:

If I HAD to move to The People's Republic of Godforsaken maryland to be with my significant other. I'd gladly part ways with her, get a dog, and move to another state. It's not worth the trouble nor the torture to live in this POS, socialist, taxing, anti-gun state. At least you can't say we didn't warn you...lol.
