    Advisory - CLEO Notifications to MD Department of State Police

    Please see the below Advisory regarding Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) notifications for NFA weapons being forwarded to the Maryland Department of State Police per ATF Final Rule “Machineguns, Destructive Devices and Certain Other Firearms; Background Checks for Responsible Persons of a Trust or Legal Entity With Respect to Making or Transferring a Firearm".

    This is the only thing I see...
    “Effective July 13, 2016, the final rule “Machineguns, Destructive Devices and Certain Other Firearms; Background Checks for Responsible Persons of a Trust or Legal Entity With Respect to Making or Transferring a Firearm” amends the regulations to eliminate the requirement for a certification signed by a CLEO and instead adds a CLEO notification requirement.
    Also of note was that if you are sending to MSP, they prefer email. That's an easy way to save a record without having to pay for delivery confirmation...
    Email to: msp.firearmsregistration@maryland.gov. Please add “CLEO Notification” in the email subject line. (Email is the preferable method of notification)

    I think it's just the email notification. The part about no sign off needed is old.
