Myrtle Grove Range is Closed for 4 Months, now where do I shoot? Sanners Lake has a long waiting list at the moment. I don't really want to travel far but the only option I see is an indoor range at Maryland Small Arm in Suitland. We could really use another public range down here.

Sanner's had some openings not long ago. When was the last time you checked? I would suggest getting an application in so that if there is a wait, you can get your spot in line. They don't make you pay anything until your application is approved.

Sanners-lake.com is currently under construction. Please check back soon! Additional, I was told of a requirement of 2 sponsors. I was really just looking for a close public range, nothing complicated. My ultimate goal in life is to have enough land so I can shoot off my back porch, that is not currently an option now in Ranch Estates :) They don't even allow BB guns!!!

Their main page got hacked, so they took it down. You can still get there via this link -> http://www.sanners-lake.com/index.php

Clark Bros. in Warrenton, VA is about an hour's drive from DC. They have a nice range similar to Myrtle Grove but much better. But the ammo used on the range must be purchased there.

Nice of the DNR to close a DNR range just prior to, and during, deer firearms season which is typically the times those ranges see the most use and probably why the DNR built them to begin with. Brilliant.

What's next? We close the bay bridge Friday evenings during the summer months?

Wow, I think I woke up the Southern Maryland Group!!

Thank you all for the inputs. The ranges suggested are kind of far for someone who does not want to spend 3 to 4 hours driving to shoot for 1 to 2 hours. I am located in Lusby, MD. I think Sanner's Lake is my only option but I'm not ready to commit to a membership. I know, I'm being picky! I don't mind paying 10 or 20 bucks for my wife and I to shoot for a couple of hours somewhere no further then an hour drive. Warrenton is out of the question :)

Anyway, I just picked up my Ruger Single Six from the Tackle Box this morning and I am dying to shoot it.

Isn't there some open public park down here where you can just shoot. I use to go 4 wheelin into the woods of Panama City, Fl. , take the empty cans out of the trunk and shoot them. Ah, the good ole days.

Seems like a range in Southern MD would be a great idea. I was at MD Small Arms the other day (during the day) and it was packed... police, security guards, even some military, all shooting.

Why do you think the Myrtle Grove range is closed? Was just there, sure looks open. No signs are up indicating it is closed or announcing any any future closing.

The person who maintains the Range announced that the range would be closed for 4 months starting Oct for an overhaul. I guess they are starting late.

I just called Myrtle Grove. The guy on the phone said that the range is open. They're just starting to award the contract and don't know when the range will close.

Living right next to the bridge, that wouldn't bother me one bit.
