Anyone have a recommendation?
My 6 year old Jack Russel, Zena, has bloody stool.
Very concerned.
My usual vet in Prince Frederick is booked
until late January.
Sorry about your dog. I hope you find a good vet that gets the dog back to health.
Once you do, I would make your 'usual' vet your previous vet. Don't care if they are booked until end of January. If you told them your dog was sick, they should make room.
If it's a dark red, as opposed to bright, I'd get on it quickly.
Canal Clinic in Potomac took us Christmas eve on no notice - but a bit far for you.
Good Luck.
More and more vets seem to be going down the same road as human doctors -- primary care and urgent care are being separated. One of my cats stopped eating for five days and the primary care vet just referred me to the Pet ER.
Another positive plug for St Marys VCA. They took care of my best buddy (a cat) with no advance notice. Found out that he had a severe UTI that would have killed him in less than a day later. They are a bit pricey, but they're the best.
At Home Animal Care, based in White Plains, but she comes to you at your home. She is a little more expensive than some, but it's nice to have in-house service for some things. Former Army I think and she knows her stuff.
Just now off seeing these responses....was hoping to see something like, “Oh, yeah,
Dr So-and-so in Loveville”.
Will look into St Mary’s which seems to have gotten a coupla thumbs up.
Watching her closely...acting normally, active, playful, eating normally, no signs of unusual lethargy, etc.
Waiting for another bowel movement to
see if this was a one-time event.
Will advise.
Not happy with our regular vet’s response
and been going there for 12 years, although recently under new management. Heck,
my wife had been a vet tech there for a
coupla years.
Stay tuned and thank you for your concern, everyone...the Forum is at its best when we talk about our best friends!!!!
There is an emergency 24 hour vet in Dunkirk, but they are not open on weekends.
Keep the Waldorf number in your back pocket. It came in handy when my pup decided it wanted to play with a copperhead, and the copperhead didn't want to.
Inigoes, I had two dogs tangle with a
copperhead back in Port Tobacco...both
survived but cost thousands. Then one of
them pulled a repeat the following year.
Ugh. We do what we have to for these guys.
And, the MASH facility in Dunkirk is excellent...we used them once when we were still in Prince Frederick.
CanDoEZ, thank you for that...we are in temp quarters in Lexington Park so. Charlotte Hall is
close.
And, the good news for now is that my
little Zena seems to be OK...no more
bleeding thus far.
