My neighbor is to be our next prosecutor and he is required to carry a handgun. He has two young girls and is leaning toward a glock. He is looking for a secure accessible safe to keep it in for himself and his wife. I thought this would be a great place for suggestions.

IMO the best for something like what your recommending is the Hornady Rapid Safe:

    https://www.amazon.com/Hornady-Secu...0572&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=horandy+rapid+safe

    https://www.amazon.com/Hornady-RAPi...0572&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=horandy+rapid+safe

I have seen them at several IP's for sale, it's what I suggest to anyone to use with kids in my HQL/CCW Classes for quick accessible storage in the home.

Looks like a good idea, but the reviews indicate a reliability problem. How safe is a safe that won't open? Depends, I suppose, on circumstances.

Get something like a Fort Knox pistol box with a Simplex lock. Biometric pistol boxes are not reliable enough IMO.

Bolt it down next to the bed.

Yes, I know, an 8 year old with a rechargable drill and 3 hrs at his hands can drill his way in. Or a smart 12 year old can print off a table with 1023 simplex combinations to try through. Your average bear won't just pop the thing open.

I like both of these ideas. And hide or conceal them. Not a fan of key locks (for quick access), nor battery powered locks.

This is what I'm looking at for my bedside. They're also the only place I could find that will make you a quick access safe with a mechanical lock that is designed for a suppressed handgun.

First off, from the very beginning, he needs to start a teaching/training program for his children. Take away the awesomeness of a handgun and the kids won't have a desire to sneak around trying to find it. Second, if this is just for storage and not for home defense, any lock box will work. I wouldn't spend too much money on this. There have been some suggestions, but he's going to have to look around to see what works for his family.

They also offer a keyed lock to override the combination lock. This guards against a bored kid who is good at math guessing his way in.

Now the type of mechanical lock is susceptible to a rotary pick, but that's not a tool your typical burglar carries around.
