I bought a 1917 Enfield Sporter at a local GS from a private seller that told me he had never fired it. I want to get the headspace checked before I fire. Any suggestions of where to go?
I live near Belair, but will travel as needed.
    thanks

1917's are chambered in 30-06, not .303. The camming action on them is so strong they'll break head space gauges. It's cheaper to get a smith to do the check versus buying the gauges unless you have multiple rifles in that caliber that need checking.

unless hes talking about an actual enfield dated 1917, lol.

i dunno what a smith will charge to check headspace but i doubt its less than the $31 a field gauge costs from forster.

i would just buy one, if you never need it again, put it up for sale here and im sure someone will be glad to buy it for most of the cost you paid, and you could end up having checked the headspace for $10 or so.
