    Long story short...
Elderly lady I know has a Python from her deceased husband and she needs fast cash. I am going to purchase it from her but I want to ensure I do so for a fair price (for both of us). Python values are all over the place and I don't see any specific features on this one that would make it significantly more rare than an average Python.

1980 manufacture - 6" - blued. Has original box with matching serial #. Definitely been used but not a lot. Slight turn ring, finish probably 95%+. Based on another Python I have I would bet it has seen maybe 250 - 500 rounds.

Thoughts? Where can I go to get a definitive on value?

    Thanks

You can look at websites that specialize in Colt handguns like collectorfirearms.com.
Gunbroker has several Pythons similar to the one you describe, with bidding mostly in the $1700-$2200 range. That's probably a fair representation of actual market value, somewhat more when you have the original box w/contents. Or, you can pay for a professional appraisal; they usually don't cost a lot.

My partner just sold one which is the exact condition you described. It was a NR gunbroker auction. It didn't have the original grips that came with the gun but he bought an original pair and sold it with the gun + some pachymer grips. It sold for 1900.

Pythons have gone nuts. Take the GB finished auctions as a price guide, knock down about 3% for the GB fees.

And if you don't want it, please let me know.

Damn! I should have bought a Python when they were $600-$700!

The first one I bought was in the early 90s. $600. It had less than a box of ammo through it. And it came with a Safariland holster that at the time was over $100 and 400 rounds of ammo. LOL. Its the blued one I recently posted in the revolver porn thread.

The first one... Nice. My only one I bought around '83 for $300, was my first gun. I don't think I can part with it, but $2k is sure tempting.
