Purchased a ruger american in 22lr. My old man eyes will need a scope. I have a BSA sweet17 on my savage and love it. Some of the reviews of the sweet 22 series are less than flattering. So also looking at vortex 4x12/40 or 44.
    Questions
    1. Anyone using a sweet 22 4x12? Thoughts on it if you have one.
    2. Never shot the vortex. Good reviews. Anybody shooting one?
    3. Any other recomendations in the 150-225 range?
    Thanks for any thoughts.

I second gearhog just picked up the same ceasefire II package. While not super expensive glass I cant find a thing wrong with it especially for the price. Shipping tookabout a week I believe.

    sold!

OK. I just ordered from gear hog. Thanks a million.
Very interested in how you like your ruger american.
I was shopping for a 77-22 but no luck. So I ordered the American.
My son has my 10-22, so I needed a replacement!
The mags are the same which helps.
So, looks like you got the short barrel?
    How does she shoot?

I really like it a lot. I was pleasantly surprised by the trigger. It is light and crisp. I have only shot it out to 50 yards but it is dead on. It has become one of my favorite shooters. Words of advice...when you get it, clean the bolt really well, lube it and work the action several times. It was a bit stiff in the beginning but after 200 rounds, it has become extremely smooth.

It was nice to find this deal, so thanks to all. I was concerned as I was unsure what height rings to purchase. Now a non-issue! Looks like you have weaver bases and rings rather than the (IMO) less reliable 22lr mounts. I ordered the weaver bases from Ruger. The gun is so new in rimfire that most places don't know what size base to sell you! They have them on the ruger web site. If anyone wants to get them locally, they are weaver #12s. I would have liked the other reticle, but will likely have no issue with this one.
    Thanks again

Not to hijack, but thoughts on the gearhog viper for a higher caliber, long range rifle on a budget? Maybe a .308 or perhaps a .223 depending.

Vortex are great. And the lifetime, no questions asked warranty is very good.

    Nikon makes good scopes.

The only BSA I would consider is the Midway 4-14x Tactical. I have heard it is not made by BSA, which may be why it is actually a pretty good scope.

Is this a good choice for a 10/22 Takedown? Same mount? Thanks.

What's the parallax set to on that Gear Hog Vortex? For .22 I like a setting at 50 yd or less or an AO. Most rifle scopes are set at 100 yards which get blurry at short shots such as 25 yards. I like the deal though.

Both the 2-7x32 and the 4-12x44 scopes parallax are 100 yds.
