I've been thinking about what my 1911 would look like with new grips for a while now....

So I grabbed a scrap of curly maple and just went at it.

They are still a bit chunky... But it's a start.

I have a close family friend who makes all his own furniture and I was thinking about talking to him about helping me make some grips for my new 1911 and revolver.

Can i threadjack a minute? Does anyone have any suggestions for WW2 style grips? I don't care if they're real or reproduction, I just want to put ww2 style grips on my RIA GI model 1911, when I'm finally able to take it home (day 48, long way to go).

I've googled it and found some links, but i'm hoping someone has actual experience with some vendor or another before I buy.
