Just received these today, some pretty hard to find 'add-ons' for the Japanese Arisaka Type 38 and 99 rifles. It's a Type 2 grenade launcher attachment and an uber hard to find 40mm HE anti-tank grenade round for it (inert of course).

These launchers are copies of the German schiessbecher design. Launchers and grenades were delivered to the Japanese in 1942 via blockade breaker, and later that year the Japanese were cranking out their own. This launcher was made in 1943 at the Nagoya Army Arsenal. Grenade round is also dated Showa 18 (1943).

Also interesting is the similarity in design between the Type 2 rifle grenade and the Type 2 aerial cluster bomb - the warhead design with the internal shaped charge is almost identical

That's freaking awesome. I feel ashamed to say I never knew the Japanese even used rifle grenades

Thanks! In addition to the Type 2 launcher attachment here, they also used the Type 100 (launched Type 99 "Kiska" hand grenades) and late war "spigot" style launcher attachments that fired finned rifle grenades.

Looks similar to the German launcher and HE grenade. Here is mine in not as good of shape as yours. but I bought the grenade and got the launcher for free.

Thanks for posting that! Great pic to show how the launchers are almost exactly the same.

Side note - nice glazed variation T4 grenade!
