So I finally got it. And I think it was worth the wait. It is sharp enough to shave with, the handle is a nice cut of hickory, and the sheath is a nice, soft leather, hand stitched. All in all, a beautiful piece.

That looks just about perfect. Nice long edge with a nice slicing curve. Somewhere back in my childhood there was a Mohican series on PBS that I really liked. About the same time I was reading the Foxfire books. All the hawks I saw there resembled the one pictured above. Modern hawks seem to often have a short flat edge with a long strait throat. To me, a poorly designed kama. What it drives into, it won't pull out easy. I look at that one a can see the very important follow through of a swung weapon.
