When I lived in Maryland I was in the Allegheny Highlands every chance I got. Dolly Sods, Roaring Plains, Canaan, Seneca Rock, Blackwater Falls, etc. I love that area.
Some very intense mt. biking there. I’ve camped in blackwater Falls State Park at least three times. To old for that level of biking now, but glad I did I it.
It's the tanin from woods decay in the water. That water looks dirty/polluted...

I live about 40 minutes away from BWFs and we have a large chunk of property that is on the shoulder of Mt. Porte Crayon and backs up to the Roaring Plains Wilderness, which is adjacent to Dolly Sods. That is all my stomping grounds.
You have only seen a small fraction of what is in this area to see. It is worthy of multiple visits. Depends on what you are into, I can give you bunches of recommendations on where to go.
Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, Dolly Sods are all in my backyard. Been to these places many times.
