I am looking at getting the Nikon M-223 AR scope Mount. Cabelas has it on sale for $40.

Here are the description and reviews from Midway.

Does anyone have any experience with this mount?

I tend to trust nikon as good quality, but I have two concerns.

    1) I saw in a review that it holds a 40mm scope .75 inches above the rail. That sounds awfully high.

    2) It looks like it slides onto the rail and then clamps on by flexing the base of the mount. How is this a good thing to do?

I've never used this mount, but regarding the height, a taller mount is necessary on an AR due to the horizontal nature of the buffer tube and stock.

.75" does not sound unreasonable at all.

I have used one, no issues, with an M223 scope (actually a couple diff M223 scopes). It is solid, does slide over the rail, as most AR mounts (except QD, which I actually prefer), so you have to slide the CH back, slide it on and tighten the screws.

I put it on my first build, a bull bbl AR that shoots extremely well, so it is a good mount.. ;)

Don't have a recent pic of it handy, but I do at home..

I've read that it is a good quality mount. Just be sure it will work with the scope you have in mind. One-piece mounts don't have the flexibility of individual rings and sometimes a certain scope & rail combo just won't work with them.

    Nikon M-223 AR Mount

Here is a pic of the Nikon M-223 XR ( Extended range built with 20 MOA) Mount on my JP. Scope is a Nikon M-223 4-16x42. The added height is necessary for the proper cheek weld. I have found that most AR's have a scope height from mid bore to mid scope of 2-2.5 inches.
