<sigh> I have a HuffPo account now, and I pointed them to the Blaze article. I have a funny feeling that a shower won't make me feel cleaner.

Of note - there are 7300+ comments on this story, with another 250 pending moderation. I'm thinking that more exposure and discussion is a good thing.

A liberal friend of mine blew the whole thing off "because its a story about child welfare, not guns".
*sigh* why do I bother talking to them?

Because your friend is exactly the type of person we need to convince to critically think about the situation.

The articles mention that the child had passed a child safety course (and that his father was not the instructor to avoid suspicion). So the child could definitely handle a firearm and knew proper safety.

I much rather have that firearm in the hands of that child than Sen. Feinstein who waved around semiautomatics like a maestro conducting an orchestra.

Since when does a photo of a young person, engaged in a lawful activity, form the basis for any sort of inquiry by the state? Heck, if a photo shows a kid riding a bike without a helmet, that might constitute some evidence of a crime (if he is violating a helmet law), but there is nothing in the photo showing reckless, endangering, or illegal behavior. If I post a photo of my kid swimming in a lake, does that give the state probable cause to investigate whether I gave his proper swimming lessons? Not only should this be "case closed", this should have been no case in the first place!

Do not apply logic, where logic does not apply.

These folks are running on emotion, not rational thought. If they were thinking, they would have had a warrant instead of trying to bully their way in like common thugs.

Its never going to happen. I tried for several years & he doesn't WANT to think, just "be right". Every time I pinned him into a corner he'd do a U turn, lie or change the subject.

That is sad. At least you did attempt, multiple times, to steer him to see the side he doesn't want to see.

Never mind Black Helicopters or the DEA , Child Protective has way more reach to ignore any laws or Constitutions. ( Everyone together now ) Because it's for the Children ! It seems like I'm making a joke , but not really. They can confiscate children at the vaguest whim , and even thretening to make someone subject to a Child Abuse investagation is a 900 lb hammer.

But meanwhile Social Media of any flavor has no upside.

Because it wasn't politically correct, that's why! And that's all that matters. Don't you guys know that by now?

I wonder if the same stink would've been made if he were holding a bolt action.

I just hope he has a good, aggressive attorney. Obviously we need to establish the mindset that the mere presence of a firearm, in a lawful location and being used or handled in a lawful manner, does not form the basis for even an inquiry by the state.

Dropping by this family's home like they did is the equivalent of randomly stopping automobiles and demanding to see your driver's license. In neither case is there even a prima facie showing of wrong-doing, so leave us the heck alone!
