    Hey all,

Brand new to the forum and to firearms in general. Used to be a knife collector (customs and nice productions like BMs) and still pick up a new knives on occasion. I used to be (technically still am) a member of the major knife collection forums online so I figured since there is forum for local Firearm Enthusiasts, why not jump on.

I recently made my first firearm purchase yesterday online (Sig P320 from GunBroker) and was curious about the entire process from start to finish and was wondering if anyone can fill in any parts I may have missing the in the entire process. I am currently waiting for the firearm to ship and it is in the "Awaiting FFL Receipt" part of the transaction. I can link the Won Auction if anyone needs to see it.

So here is what I have done and gather so far:

    1. Completed my portion of a 77r prior to purchasing the gun. Received Application number and PIN in email.

    2. Reached out to local FFL and gave them a heads up on the future purchase. Emailed them the Application number and the PIN number.

    3. Made the purchase on GunBroker and paid immediately. Chose the FFL during the purchase process on GunBroker.

Now here is where I am a bit confused on things. What left is there for me to do I guess from this point, all the way to pickup of the gun? Some questions I have are:

Does the FFL complete the rest of the 77r and how does the FFL get access to the application to complete it? Do they have there own sign in portal or something like that?

At what point does information go back to MSP for the "Not Disapproved" letter process get started? From what I read/searched that could take 7-10 days. Does all that happen via the local FFL?

What can I expect to see in the MSP Licensing Portal in regards to the 77r application? Right now "Date Forwarded" and "Expiration" are blank. Will these populate once the FFL completes the 77r?

I assume I can pickup the firearm once I receive the Not Disapproved letter and it's been at least 7 days since purchase. Upon pickup, is there anything I need to bring with me (I have a lock box, do I need one of those locks that go through the mag slot as well?) other then ID and the money for the FFL Transfer fees?

Is there anything else I need to complete at pickup?

You guys seem super knowledgeable of the entire process and I think I have a good grasp on it all. Not sure if anyone can fill in the blanks or point out where I am wrong anywhere.

    Thanks a ton.

TL;DR - Noob, bought gun online, curious about the process.

Ok s o it looks like the FFL dealer you are using is already set up on Gunbroker? I'd notify them that you bought the gun and to be on the look out for it. When it comes in you'll need to go to the FFL, give them the online PIN and they can get you to complete the rest of it on their computer. You'll need to pay them the transfer fee and the MSP $10 fee. You will get an Email form the MSP saying you are not disaproved at 6 am on the 8th day, then you can go pick it up.

can we assume this means MSP isn't meeting the 7 day window on background checks?

The application day is day 1 so if I do the paperwork on a Tuesday the following Tuesday is day 7 so the next day is when I can pick up, at least that's my understanding of it?!?!?

When I recently had a lower shipped to my FFL, I did the paperwork on a Saturday, and at 6am the following Saturday, I got the MSP 'Not Disapproved' email back, and was at my FFL to pick it up later that morning.

A lock box and a cable lock are a no go in Maryland. Maryland requires a bore lock. You don't have to install the bore lock, in fact you don't even have to take it out of the package. But you do need to show the FFL that you have one when you come to pick up the firearm.

If you don't have one, or you're having trouble finding one, depending where you're located in Maryland, you could probably borrow one by posting a request in this thread...

You're right I misspoke Saturday to Saturday, 7 day wait and Saturday is beginning of 8th day

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Quick update on the purchase. The local FFL needed to email the seller a copy of his FFL. It is not marked as FFL received and is awaiting shipment. Hopefully it will ship tomorrow.

Now once it arrives, I complete the 77R paperwork with the FFL and once it is submitted that starts the 7-8day waiting period. Then the "Not Disapproved" letter/email comes and I can pick up the gun.

    Do I have that correct?

Keep in mind the dealers are all swamped at this time and it it could be 7-10 days before they even ship your gun.

Will do. Thanks for the info. He mentioned pretty much that exact thing in the auction item description. Understandably so. It was impossible to find this gun locally at all.

I feel like I picked the busiest/worst time to get my HQL and decide to get a gun.

I’m with ya.....I haven’t bought a gun in years.....Buying one today totally sucks. Everybody’s in your pocket. But… This is what the left wanted so….....I guess I can see now why somebody would steal one...

Thanks for asking all these questions… I’m in the same boat right now. I really didn’t know about all the things that I had to do… I thought getting the HQL was the end of it......I can also say that I recently went to a local gun show… And they ain’t what they used to be. I can remember tables and tables full of used handguns for sale.....The show I just went to had about two or three tables of used handguns with probably less than 10 on each table......pathetic.
