Hey all,
Brand new to the forum and to firearms in general. Used to be a knife collector (customs and nice productions like BMs) and still pick up a new knives on occasion. I used to be (technically still am) a member of the major knife collection forums online so I figured since there is forum for local Firearm Enthusiasts, why not jump on.
I recently made my first firearm purchase yesterday online (Sig P320 from GunBroker) and was curious about the entire process from start to finish and was wondering if anyone can fill in any parts I may have missing the in the entire process. I am currently waiting for the firearm to ship and it is in the "Awaiting FFL Receipt" part of the transaction. I can link the Won Auction if anyone needs to see it.
So here is what I have done and gather so far:
1. Completed my portion of a 77r prior to purchasing the gun. Received Application number and PIN in email.
2. Reached out to local FFL and gave them a heads up on the future purchase. Emailed them the Application number and the PIN number.
3. Made the purchase on GunBroker and paid immediately. Chose the FFL during the purchase process on GunBroker.
Now here is where I am a bit confused on things. What left is there for me to do I guess from this point, all the way to pickup of the gun? Some questions I have are:
Does the FFL complete the rest of the 77r and how does the FFL get access to the application to complete it? Do they have there own sign in portal or something like that?
At what point does information go back to MSP for the "Not Disapproved" letter process get started? From what I read/searched that could take 7-10 days. Does all that happen via the local FFL?
What can I expect to see in the MSP Licensing Portal in regards to the 77r application? Right now "Date Forwarded" and "Expiration" are blank. Will these populate once the FFL completes the 77r?
I assume I can pickup the firearm once I receive the Not Disapproved letter and it's been at least 7 days since purchase. Upon pickup, is there anything I need to bring with me (I have a lock box, do I need one of those locks that go through the mag slot as well?) other then ID and the money for the FFL Transfer fees?
Is there anything else I need to complete at pickup?
You guys seem super knowledgeable of the entire process and I think I have a good grasp on it all. Not sure if anyone can fill in the blanks or point out where I am wrong anywhere.
Thanks a ton.
TL;DR - Noob, bought gun online, curious about the process.
