I know deer will take refuge in rock slides due to hunter pressure etc.
Sometimes I wondered why in the hell they went in there to begin with because of so easy to get harmed, injured or in this case trapped.
Once I figured it out, filling buck tags was easy because areas like that are often overlooked.
They probably died from stress long before they starved out.
Sort of gives a different perspective for such noble animals.

What sucked even worse is the fact that the vultures probably started queuing up before he was dead.

Or man possibly, interrupting behavioral characteristics like over-harvesting/ killing off female species that imprint into the young’s minds, where to go, take refuge or feed for sustenance.
They probably got pushed into those rocks maybe , to befall something like that too.

I would bet the more he struggled ,the deeper he got. Looks like the rocks would keep him from breathing. He was probably dead within minutes. JMHO

I would expect the skeleton to fall apart as the body decayed, especially as small critters had their way with it.

That just looks too pristine to be real.

It probably will eventually. There's still some flesh on the head and neck, so it hasn't been there for a long time.

ETA also either hide or muscle tissue left between the ribs and the rock.

If so, I'll bet he doesn't make THAT mistake again.

Remember the guy some years back who got his arm trapped between rocks in the Utah back country? After about three days he sawed his hand off with a pocketknife and was able to walk out.

It was more than a hand... I believe I remember he intentionally broke the bones in his forearm and cut it off somewhere between the elbow and wrist.
